Purpose

The State Board of Examiners of Psychologists was established to assure the citizens of the State of Maine of the highest standards of practice of psychology.

The primary responsibilities of the Board are to conduct examinations of candidates for licensure to practice psychology, to verify credentials of applicants, to license and renew upon documentation of continuing education activities, to conduct hearings and investigations upon receipt of complaints pertaining to psychology.

Effective March 1, 2019, the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation (OPOR) will no longer issue paper license verifications. License verifications are available, free of charge, on OPOR’s official database, https://www.pfr.maine.gov/ALMSOnline/ALMSQuery/Welcome.aspx?board=4410. This database is updated in real time as changes occur. The Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation considers this information to be a secure, primary source for license verification.

Are You a Mandated Reporter?

Maine law requires that medical, mental health and social services personnel immediately report or cause a report to be made to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) when the provider knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that a child or an incapacitated or dependent adult has been or is likely to be abused or neglected or that a suspicious death (child or incapacitated adult) has occurred.

What's New

PSYPACT INFORMATION

The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) Commission has published Proposed Rules for consideration and comment. The Proposed Rules can be found HERE.

These Proposed Rules are open for a period of 60 days for public comment for those stakeholders interested in providing such comment. The deadline for submission of written comments is September 27, 2022.

Written comments should be submitted via the public comment form found on the PSYPACT website (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/PublicComment) and submitted to the PSYPACT Commission no later than 5:00 pm Eastern on September 27, 2022.

A public hearing will be conducted as part of the PSYPACT Commission’s Annual Meeting via Zoom on November 17, 2022, beginning at 11:00 am Eastern. Interested parties may participate and notification will be posted to the PSYPACT website (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/Meetings) 30 days prior to the meeting with call-in information provided.
