Public Health Districts

Maine's nine Public Health Districts are geographic areas that work to improve public health in the state. Each district is made up of one or more counties. In 2011, in collaboration with the five Maine Tribal jurisdictions, a Tribal Health District was established with boundaries determined by Tribal Health Center service areas and tribal jurisdictional boundaries.

Healthy Communities

Public health initiatives focused on building Healthy Communities aim to improve the well-being of all residents by addressing various aspects of health and social determinants of health. This includes promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing diseases, and ensuring access to essential resources like education, housing, and healthcare,

The Maine CDC supports health communities by providing services in Maine's public health districts, local public health officers, public nursing program, our rural health and primary care program and the Maine CDC Office of Population Health.
