Welcome Vendor Applicant!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a WIC authorized vendor. The Maine Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) accepts applications from stores interested in accepting the Maine WIC Card as a form of payment for WIC authorized foods. This page provides information and guidance about the Maine WIC vendor application and authorization process.

Becoming a Maine WIC Authorized Vendor

To become authorized to accept WIC as a form of payment, stores must meet criteria specified in the Maine WIC Vendor Agreement and state/federal regulations.

Before submitting, it is recommended that interested stores review Maine WIC's Vendor Authorization Criteria (PDF), Minimum Stocking Requirements (PDF), Approved Product List (PDF),  and WIC Vendor Regulations state 10-144 C.M.R. ch. 286, §/ federal 7 CFR Part 246 to ensure the store can meet these requirements.

The New Vendor Authorization Process

Maine WIC accepts requests for applications from vendors year-round. However, new vendor authorizations are limited based on geographic coverage and participant density in that area. An Application will only be provided if there is an identified need in the store's area.

If your store is interested in becoming a WIC-authorized vendor, then the following steps outline the process:

  1. Submit a Request for WIC Vendor Application
Complete and submit the Request for WIC Vendor Application form via Adobe Sign (PDF).
  2. Submit the Vendor Application Packet
If there is an opening in your area, you will receive a Vendor Application. Complete and submit it along with all required documentation.
  3. Attend New Vendor Training class.
Participate in a mandatory New Vendor Training session provided by Maine WIC staff.
  4. Submit a Signed Vendor Agreement
Complete and submit the WIC Vendor Agreement after successful training.
  5. Pass a Preauthorization Store Visit
Your store must pass an on-site preauthorization inspection conducted by WIC staff.
  6. Use a Certified POS System
Your store must have an electronic Point of Sale (POS) system certified to accept the Maine WIC EBT Card.

Stores will need to investigate and independently confirm with a company that the hardware, software, version etc. will support eWIC transactions.
