Maine's Expanded Universal Immunization Program
Starting July 1, 2026, the Maine Immunization Program will expand access to vaccinations from children 0-18 years to eligible adults 19-64 years*.
To be eligible, an individual must be:
- Aged 19-64 and either:
- Underinsured
- Uninsured
- Privately Insured
- Enrolled in MaineCare
Maine offers several options for older adults to get vaccinated:
- Health Care Providers: Adult vaccines may be available through primary care providers, specialists, and local health clinics.
- Pharmacies: Many pharmacies offer walk-in vaccinations for older adults.
- Maine's Expanded Universal Immunization Program:
*Adults 65 years and older are not covered under this program, regardless of insurance status.
Why Vaccines Are Important for Adults
Older adults are at greater risk for certain illnesses due to a weakened immune system that naturally occurs with age. Vaccination is a safe and effective way to:
- Prevent serious diseases
- Reduce the risk of complications.
- Protect loved ones, especially grandchildren, from vaccine preventable diseases.
