Welcome to the Lab.

Contact Us

The Forensic Chemistry Section of the Maine Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory is currently accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to ISO/IEC 17025 & ANAB 3125 Requirements for Forensic Testing and Calibration in the disciplines of Seized Drug Analysis and Toxicology.

ANAB offers accreditation to forensic laboratories that exhibit strict compliance to rigorous quality standards. The program's criteria address all areas of the laboratory's operations including management, personnel training and qualifications, health and safety, technical operations, evidence handling, proficiency testing and lab security. Compliance to these standards is assessed through a comprehensive and thorough inspection performed by an external team of ANAB trained inspectors.

Our Mission

The mission of the Forensic Chemistry Section is to provide accurate, reliable, timely, and state of the art scientific analysis and subsequent expert testimony in the areas of seized drugs and toxicology. The service is provided primarily to criminal justice agencies within the State of Maine, although the forensic director may authorize the occasional acceptance of other work related to governmental agency investigations. Chemists provide expert witness testimony, presenting and defending their findings in courts in Maine.
