Corporations, UCC and Commissions Division moving to Ballard Center

AUGUSTA — The Department of Secretary of State’s Division of Corporations, UCC and Commissions is moving to the Ballard Center at 6 E Chestnut Street, Augusta. To allow for the move, the Division will be closed to in-person service on June 25 and reopening in the new location on June 26.

The move will not interrupt any online services for the Division, and phone lines will remain open for customer service.

Scarborough BMV to be temporarily closed

AUGUSTA — The Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Scarborough branch will be temporarily closed starting May 25 to allow for further repair work following the broken roof drain in February 2023. The branch is expected to be closed for at least four weeks while work is ongoing.

Following that winter’s coldest days, a roof drain above the office broke, sending water cascading into the interior of the branch. Staff worked quickly to ensure safety of customers and ensure electronics were out of range of the water pouring from the ceiling.

BMV, EMCC to host free catalytic converter etching event

AUGUSTA — On April 23, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ Enforcement Division and Eastern Maine Community College will host a free catalytic converter etching event for area vehicle owners.

Vehicle owners can register for a specific time slot by emailing investigations.bmv@maine.gov. The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon at EMCC, 354 Hogan Road, Bangor.

EMCC students from the Criminal Justice and Automotive Technology Programs will assist with the marking of the catalytic converters.

Maine State Archives hires Director for the Maine Semiquincentennial Commission

AUGUSTA — Maine State Archives has hired Sarah Hansen as the Director of Special Projects for the Maine Semiquincentennial Commission. Hansen started in her new role on June 3.

"I am thrilled to be joining the outstanding team at Maine State Archives and the Maine Semiquincentennial Commission," said Hansen. "This is an incredible opportunity for all Mainers to come together to explore our stories, rich and challenging, and meaningfully engage each other in understanding the power of this place we now call Maine."

Bellows alerts all Maine businesses of new federal reporting requirement

AUGUSTA – Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is alerting Maine business owners and representatives of a new federal law with a new federal reporting requirement for businesses nationwide.

"While the Division of Corporations is a ministerial agency, we also try to help business owners and representatives in knowing about their legal obligations," said Secretary Bellows. "This is not a report that is filed with us, but we want businesses to know about this new federal reporting requirement as failure to comply may result in significant civil and criminal penalties."

National Voter Registration Day tomorrow, September 17

AUGUSTA — November 17 is National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to celebrating democracy and registering voters.

"Registering to vote is an important and exciting step towards casting a ballot and having your voice heard in Maine’s elections," said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. "This year we were excited to implement Maine’s first online voter registration system at Maine.gov/vote, which has made registering to vote for the first time – or updating a registration after a big life change – even more convenient for busy Mainers."
