Citizen initiative found valid with 86,904 signatures

AUGUSTA — The citizen initiative petition effort “An Act to Require an Individual to Present Photographic Identification for the Purpose of Voting” has been found valid, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows confirmed today.

On Jan. 6, 2025 the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions received 4,410 petition forms with an estimated 171,562 signatures of voters who support the initiative.

Motor Vehicle Franchise Board

The Maine Motor Vehicle Franchise Board was created in 2003 to hear cases under Maine 's Motor Vehicle Franchise Law, Title 10 M.R.S.A., Chapter 204, subchapter 1: REGULATION OF BUSINESS PRACTICES BETWEEN MOTOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS. The Board is empowered to adopt rules, review complaints, hold hearings, render decisions, and impose penalties and costs on motor vehicle manufacturers and distributors under the Franchise Law.
