Maine's nine Public Health Districts are geographic areas that work to improve public health in the state. Each district is made up of one or more counties. In 2011, in collaboration with the five Maine Tribal jurisdictions, a Tribal Health District was established with boundaries determined by Tribal Health Center service areas and tribal jurisdictional boundaries.

Aroostook District Coordinating Council
The Aroostook District Coordinating Council (Aroostook DCC) is a representative, district-wide body formed in partnership with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) to engage in collaborative planning and decision-making for the delivery of the ten essential public health services in the Aroostook Public Health District. The Aroostook Public Health District includes 68 communities in Aroostook County.
The Vision of the Aroostook DCC is: Inspiring Leadership, Engaging Communities, Improving Health
The Mission of the Aroostook DCC is to be the district-wide representative body for collaborative public health infrastructure development in Aroostook County by:
- Ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of the ten Essential Public Health Services in Aroostook County.
- Creating and sustaining partnerships and shared public health resources.
- Promoting countywide collaboration in public health assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Continually enhancing the quality of public health services provided.
How do we meet this mission?
We mobilize working partnerships to combine efforts and resources within the district to produce results that no one community, organization, or sector could achieve effectively or efficiently alone.
We follow a multi-year plan of objectives, strategies, and outcomes for district action called the District Public Health Improvement Plan (DPHIP) in collaboration with district partners and the Maine CDC. The DPHIP informs the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP).
Our priorities:
- Improving cardiovascular health
- Reducing impact of substance abuse
- Improving healthy weight
Steering Committee

District Committees

The Council is made up of (elected) Council members representing public health sectors that are identified in the Council's bylaws and interested persons within the District. Please join us for one of our Council meetings to learn more about the work we do.
