Maine Student Mock Election to be held tomorrow

AUGUSTA, MAINE – The Maine Student Mock Election will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, with students at more than 115 schools around the state participating. The mock ballots include the Governor, U.S. Senate, and both U.S. House races.

“Each of the candidates created campaign-style videos that were provided to the schools so the students will be making their decisions from a unique point of view,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. “As we have seen in past mock elections, the student sometimes voice very different opinions from the adults in their lives.”

Most of the participating schools will hold mock elections tomorrow, with announcement of results expected on Wednesday.

“Mock elections are a great civics lesson for schools and students,” Secretary Bellows. “Students get to practice voting and learn about how elections work in preparation for being active voters in the future.”

The Student Mock Election is one of several programs for students from the Department of Secretary of State. Other programs are listed on the Secretary’s Kid’s Page.
