NASCAR drivers may only keep an inch or two behind the car ahead. However, for you and me, the Maine State Police recommend keeping at least three seconds between you and the car ahead. In bad weather, increase that to six seconds. Those six seconds could save your life if the car ahead of you stops suddenly.
