On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Detective Joe Royle from the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit will discuss current issues affecting children regarding Smartphones, Cyberbullying, Sexting and Sextortion, Gaming, Online Enticement, Live Streaming, Peer-to-Peer, and Social Media.

Detective Royle will be at Madison Junior High, 205 Main Street, Madison on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to speak with more than 200 students from both the junior high and Madison Area Memorial High School.
The Detective will have a candid conversation with students about online safety to help students keep safe from potential dangers they are not immune from.

The evening before on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. Detective Royle will hold a separate talk for parents at Madison Junior High. He will be discussing the current trends these issues present to children, how parents can identify them, some handy tips 'n' tricks, and how parents can approach these issues with their children to protect them online.
 

Maine State Police are continuing their investigation into a Skowhegan man arrested on child porn charges last month and they say there may be a number of young victims who are from Maine .  28 year old Christopher Raiche continues to be held at the Somerset County Jail on $250,000 bail. He was arrested October 18 after the State Police Computer Crimes Unit and Homeland Security searched his home at 57 Hilltop Drive in Skowhegan.  The search followed a tip forwarded to State Police from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Several electronic devices were seized from Raiche’s home and are being analyzed by the computer crimes unit.  He is charged with a single count of possessing sexually explicit material and investigators think he may have taken dozens of sexually explicit photos of Maine children, all under the age of 12.  Raiche was employed by T-Mobile’s call center in Oakland, but also was a baby sitter at his and other homes .  Some Maine children have been identified and investigators think there may be more Maine victims.

Raiche made his first court appearance in Skowhegan October 21. He was originally being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, but the judge increased it to $250,000.
