MCU North

The Major Crimes Unit-North is responsible for the most northern and easterly five counties: Aroostook, Washington, Piscataquis, Penobscot and Hancock. The area of responsibility covers approximately half of the state of Maine consisting of 20,000 square miles with a population of approximately 326,000 residents. This half of the state is predominantly rural with the population concentrated along the coastline to the south and the border with New Brunswick, Canada to the north. The area includes Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park and the newly established North Woods Monument. The major industries are fishing, agriculture and logging. Detectives maintain office space in the three northern most barracks (Houlton, Ellsworth and Bangor). They also work out of field offices in Caribou, Presque Isle, Calais and Jonesboro.
