The Major Crimes Unit – Central consists of one Lieutenant, two Sergeants, eleven detectives, one polygraphist, and one administrative assistant covering Kennebec, Waldo, Somerset, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties. Specialties held by Detectives are Evidence Response Team, Tactical Team, Cadaver canine, Firearms Instructors, Intoxilyzer instruction and vehicle autopsy. One of the Detectives is a certified Forensic interviewer for the Child Advocacy Center. Detectives in the Major Crimes Unit-Central work out of facilities located in Augusta, Belfast, and Skowhegan.
Of Maine’s 25 homicides in 2015, 10 occurred in the Major Crimes – Central geographic area. Three of the homicides, in Oakland, Manchester and Boothbay, involved multiple victims. Detectives also took place in two homicide trials in the latter portion of 2015 involving victims Ricky Cole, of Detroit, and Aurele Fecteau, of Waterville. Jason Cote and Roland Cummings were both found guilty in these separate trials. Major Crimes Unit – Central also covers in custody deaths at the Maine State Prison in Warren. In the latter portion of 2015, inmate Richard Stahursky plead guilty and was sentenced to life for the 2014 murder of inmate Micah Boland.
