Promotion

Det. Larry Rose was recently selected to fill the vacant Crime Lab Sergeants’ position.  Rose joined the State Police in 2000; he was assigned to Troop B where he later became a Field Training Officer (FTO) for several new troopers.  He was promoted to Detective in the Major Crimes Unit Southern Division in 2015 and then promoted to Det. Cpl. in January of this year.  Det. Rose is currently a Senior Evidence Response Team (ERT) member and has served as an ERT for the past 12 years.  He also conducts Bloodstain Pattern Analysis and 3D Forensic Mapping.

Det. Rose received the Trooper of the Year award in 2006 and the Det. Giles Landry award in 2016, 2018 and again in 2020.  Det. Rose is also the recipient of the ERT of the Year award in 2018 and 2020.

George “GJ” Neagle III was recently promoted to Sergeant in Troop D. Cpl. Neagle is a 7-year-veteran who previously served 11 years patrolling with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He has served his entire State Police career in Troop C where he was promoted to Corporal in 2019, and recently served 7 months as acting-capacity Sergeant.

Cpl. Neagle is a Tactical Team Operator, K9 handler and trainer, Firearms Instructor, and has served as a Field Training Officer. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards including Maine Sheriff’s Association Deputy of the Year 2012, Maine State Police K9 Team of the Year 2015, Trooper of the Year nominee 2015 and 2019, and a Maine State Police Bravery Award 2020.

Michael Zabarsky from the Computer Crimes Unit was recently promoted to Lieutenant of the State Police Laboratory.  Sgt. Zabarsky is a 20-year veteran who began his career in Troop B before being promoted to Detective for Major Crimes Unit - South in 2004.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 in the Special Investigations Unit and later served as a Sergeant in Troop B and most recently in Computer Crimes.

Sgt. Zabarsky has worked as a Senior Evidence Response Team, was twice nominated for Trooper of the Year and was decorated for Meritorious Service in 2016.  Prior to joining the State Police, he worked as an attorney and he maintains active status as a licensed attorney in both Maine and Massachusetts.

Recently, Cpl. Adam Schmidt was promoted to Sergeant in Troop A at the City Hall in Alfred. Schmidt is a 9-year-veteran of the Maine State Police, who has spent his career in Troop A as a Trooper and was promoted to Corporal in 2019. He is a K9 handler with K9 Ibo and assistant K9 trainer, Field Training Officer, a member of the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement Team, and most recently has served as acting capacity sergeant in Troop A. 
 
Schmidt has received numerous awards including from the New England Narcotics Officers Association, and numerous State Police awards, including the K9 team of the year in 2016, multiple nominations for Trooper of the Year and was the Maine State Police Trooper of the Year in 2018.

Troopers Elgin Physic and Jesse Duda were recently promoted to the rank of Corporal. 

Cpl. Physic is a 12-year veteran of the Maine State Police and previously served two years with the Brunswick Police Department. 

“He is known for his strong work ethic and his determination and skills in detecting and arresting impaired motorists,” said Col. John Cote. “[Elgin] is active in his community as a coach and mentor and leads a drug resistance education program in the local schools.”

Cpl. Physic was recently selected for a State Police Colonel’s Award.

Cpl. Duda is an 8-year Maine State Police veteran, who previously served five years as a Kennebec County Deputy. He is an Emergency Vehicle Operation and Control (EVOC) instructor, K-9 handler, as well as being a member of the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (PACE) Team, and a member of the Motor Unit. His hard work earned him several awards, including Troop G Trooper of the Year Nominee, Colonel’s Award, Meritorious Service Awards and a New England Narcotics Officer’s Award.

“Cpl. Physic and Cpl. Duda bring different specialties to the midnight shift. Cpl. Physic is one of the top OUI producers in the state and teaches at the academy with his knowledge and experience,” said Lt. Erik Baker, Commander of Troop G (Maine Turnpike). “Cpl. Duda is one of the best interdiction troopers we have and with the assistance of his K9 he is helping keep opioids off the street. These two will help lead the troopers they work alongside and keep the people in the state of Maine safe!”
