SAMPLE Marking Devices


Aquaculture Lease Marking Requirements (DMR Rule 2.80)
- The lease acronym (e.g. ABC DE) and “SEA FARM” must be written in 2-inch high letters on the marking devices.
- Marking devices be must be yellow in color and host reflective material.
- Marking devices must be distinguishable from interior buoys and gear.
- Marking devices must be displayed at the corners of the lease. If a lease boundary is longer than 200 yards, or the topography of the lease boundary interrupts the line of sight, additional marking devices must be deployed along the lease boundary.
- Alternative markings may be proposed for certain lease locations, such as upwellers in marina slips.
Limited-Purpose Aquaculture (LPA) License Marking Requirements (DMR Rule 2.90(6)(C))
- The LPA Site ID (e.g. ABCD121) and “SEA FARM” must be displayed on every marking device.
- LPAs must be marked by a device, such as a buoy, at each corner, at each end of the gear, or in the center of the site, as appropriate to the gear type.
- Marking devices must be distinguishable from aquaculture gear.
- Marking devices must be yellow in color and host reflective material.
Marking Requirements for Leases and LPAs with a Private aid to Navigation Permit from the US Coast Guard (DMR Rule 2.80 & 2.90(6)(C))
- The lease acronym or LPA Site ID and “SEA FARM” must be displayed on every marking device.
