Commercial Fishing Safety Fund
The Commercial Fishing Safety Fund was established by the Maine legislature in 2025. In consultation with the Commercial Fishing Safety Council, the Department of Marine Resources Commissioner will use the Fund to support activities that improve safety in the commercial fishing industry, including training and the purchase of equipment that enhances search and rescue and recovery operations at sea.
A baseline allocation from the legislature has provided $500 for fiscal years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, however donations into the Fund will be necessary to support meaningful safety training and equipment purchase.
To contribute to the Commercial Fishing Safety Fund, donations can be made by sending a check payable to "Treasurer, State of Maine" to:
Department of Marine Resources
Attention: Finance
21 State House Station
Augusta, Maine 04333
There should be clear documentation accompanying the check showing that the donation is for the Commercial Fishing Safety Fund, either by enclosing a note or memo with the check and/or by writing Commercial Fishing Safety Fund on the check memo line.
