A Dayton man is facing 8 charges after being arrested.

On Nov. 6, 2020, Maine State Police Troopers in Troop A were dispatched to an address in Dayton for a report that Rock Varnum, 50, of Dayton, had assaulted his partner, threatened to kill her, burn down the house, and also attacked another female at the scene with a knife leaving her with injuries. Varnum initially fled the area on an ATV prior to Troopers' arrival. While State Police were investigating the incident Varnum returned on his ATV, highly intoxicated. Varnum was uncooperative with Troopers and was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Varnum was then transported to the hospital. While being transported by Rescue personnel he continued to threaten them with physical harm. 

After Varnum was released from the hospital he was transported to the York County Jail where he was charged with the following offenses: Aggravated Assault (Class B); Domestic Violence Assault (Class D); Two Counts of Criminal Terrorizing (Class D); Domestic Violence Terrorizing (Class D); Operating under the influence of Alcohol(refusal to submit to test) (Class D); Refusing to submit to arrest or detention (Class D); and Disorderly Conduct (Class E).

Maine State Police Troop A is asking for assistance in locating Tammy Millette, a Lebanon resident. Millette was last seen on Route 5 in the Town of Fryeburg at the intersection of Lovell Rd and Cornshop Rd at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday. Millette was last seen walking northbound away from her vehicle wearing a black and grey Nirvana T shirt, leggings, and was barefoot. Millette left her cell phone with her vehicle. Millette is described as 5’6 and 175lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes.  If you have any information about Tammy’s last known whereabouts, please contact Maine State Police at 207-624-7076 x9, and ask for Trooper DuBois. 

A Hiram man was killed in a crash in Lyman in the evening of Oct. 22. 

On Oct. 22, 2020, 11:45 p.m., Maine State Troopers from Troop A responded to a single vehicle into a tree in the area of 156 Clarks Woods Road in the town of Lyman. The driver, Aaron Mitchell, 36, of Hiram, was transported to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries and later died. Troopers believe his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a tree head on.  Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Mr. Mitchell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. We extend condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Mitchell.

A Massachusetts man died in a crash on the Maine Turnpike earlier today.
 
On Aug. 30, 2020, Maine State Police were called to a fatal crash at Mile Marker 18 on the Maine Turnpike (Between York and Wells, Maine). As a result of the investigation, Troopers learned that Eric Fishman, 62, of Danvers, Mass. had driven off the road at Mile Marker 18 southbound. His vehicle collided with the supports of a turnpike sign. Speed and weather are considered to be factors in the crash. Fishman was the only occupant in the crash.
 

Maine State Police responded to a the report of a single-vehicle rollover crash on the North Rochester Road in Lebanon at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 19, 2020. During the response, Troopers learned that rescue was performing CPR on the patient. The male driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead shortly after Troopers arrived on scene. The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police believe he failed to negotiate a curve, and the vehicle went off the road, striking a stone wall and causing the vehicle to overturn.

A Hollis man is facing charges after police found him violating his conditions of release during a welfare check.

On July 1, 2020, at approximately 10 p.m., Troopers from Troop A responded to a house in Hollis for a welfare check of individuals at the residence. When the Trooper’s arrived at the residence, they observed Alan McGahey, 36, of Hollis, in the backyard holding a beer in his hand.

The Troopers were familiar with McGahey from a previous encounter, and knew he was on Probation for Reckless Violation of a Protection From Abuse Order (Class C Felony) and Domestic Violence Assault (Class D). Part of Alan’s probation conditions included not to use or possess alcohol, and that he was subject to search and testing for alcohol. McGahey fled and attempted to hide the beer he had been holding, and then was subsequently taken into custody.

McGahey's Probation Officer was contacted, and a probation hold was placed on Alan. He is currently being held without bail, pending a court appearance next week.

The Maine State Police is requesting the public's assistance in locating a wanted felon, Shain Johnson, who recently stole a vehicle and is wanted on multiple bail violations.

Johnson is known to stay on both Lisbon Street in Lewiston and Jackson Street in Sanford. He is currently wanted on seven (7) active sets of bail conditions for crimes including multiple felony thefts, multiple burglaries, illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and violating conditions of release. Johnson was alleged to be involved in numerous burglaries over the last few months.

Johnson is currently wanted for another felony burglary that he committed recently. While he was being sought for this warrant, Wells Police Department took a complaint yesterday where Johnson allegedly stole a vehicle. The stolen vehicle is a red 2000 Toyota Celica with aftermarket rims and a Maine registration of 7066XF.

Johnson is known to carry firearms, and should not be approached by the public. If anybody knows the whereabouts of Shain Johnson or the stolen vehicle, you are urged to contact the Maine State Police, your local Sheriff’s Office, or your local Police Department.

Subject arrested after producing fake lease agreement for Lebanon home.

On May 6, 2020, at approximately 12 noon, State Police out of Troop A responded to a possible burglary in progress at a residence on the Jim Grant Road in Lebanon.

When Troopers arrived on scene they found a female in the home that was identified as Christine Belanger, 29, of Acton. Belanger produced a lease agreement stating she was legally renting the residence from the owner.

Contact was made with the homeowner who resides in a different city. The owner stated she had never heard of Belanger and did not sign a lease agreement with her. It was determined the lease agreement was fraudulent.

Belanger was arrested for Criminal Trespass and transported to the York County Jail where bail was set at $100.

A Lebanon resident is facing charges for the third time in two months after being arrested on drug-related offense.

On May 4, 2020 Troopers in Troop A conducted a warrant check on Tianna Fermino, 21, of Lebanon, as she had an outstanding warrant from New Hampshire with New England Extradition for Violating her probation in reference to a drug offense.

Fermino was located hiding in a closet and refused to exit when ordered to do so. She was not cooperative, subsequently removed and placed in custody. While in custody she continued to be uncooperative and it was learned that she had snorted Meth and Heroin while hiding in the closet. Shortly after, she began overdosing and lost consciousness.

Troopers administered NARCAN, she began breathing again and regained consciousness. Fermino was transported by Lebanon Rescue to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford where after being treated was deemed fit for incarceration and transported to the York County Jail where she was charged with being a Fugitive from Justice, Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention Class D and Violating Conditions of Release Class E.

Fermino is currently out on two sets of bail conditions stemming from the following offenses; Unlawful Possession of Cocaine Class C, Unlawful Possession of Meth Class C, Unlawful Possession of Fentanyl Class C, Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule W Drug Class B and Violating Conditions of Release Class C. Fermino is also on probation out of New Hampshire for a drug offense.

On March 8, 2020 Fermino was arrested by State Police with Unlawful Possession of Drugs Class C and Violating Conditions of Release Class E.

On April 7, 2020 Fermino was arrested by the State Police Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule W Drug Class B and Violating Conditions of Release.

A Lyman man is facing charges after violating his bail by reportedly breaking into a residence to assault a victim before fleeing from the scene. 

On May 2, 2020 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Troopers in Troop A received a 911 hang up call from a residence in Lyman. Upon call back information was relayed that an assault may have taken place at the residence. When Troopers arrived on scene they located a male victim that had multiple lacerations to his head. Investigation revealed that Joshua Ellis, 21, of Lyman, had forced entry into the residence, committed the assault and fled the scene in a vehicle prior to Troopers arrival. Ellis was currently out of jail on two sets of bail conditions from an incident on March 25, 2020, where he assaulted the same victim and also attempted to burn that family members home down. In addition to these bail conditions, Ellis held an active warrant for his arrest for Violating his Bail Conditions.

Ellis was ultimately located by State Police and the Kennebunk Police Department at a residence in Kennebunk. While there, Ellis barricaded himself in a bathroom with a knife and refused to exit the residence. Troopers and Officers continued to try to establish a dialogue with Ellis to get him to exit the residence peacefully. While these efforts were under way, Ellis jumped out of a bathroom window and was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Ellis was transported to Southern Maine Healthcare in Biddeford to be evaluated and then to the York County Jail. Ellis has been charged with Aggravated Assault Class B, Burglary Class B, Violating Conditions of Release Class C, Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention Class D in addition to his warrant for Violating Conditions of Release. Ellis is currently being held without bail.
