Augusta ? MaineDOT has put together a survey regarding the Littlefields Bridge replacement on Hotel Road in Auburn.
During the months of July and August of 2013, the old green truss bridge was replaced with a new bridge using a technique called, ?accelerated bridge construction.? This technique helped to speed up construction time by closing the Hotel Road for only 33 days to allow the contractor uninterrupted access. Without this accelerated construction, there could have been alternating one-way traffic with the project lasting several additional months.
Augusta ? On April 1, 2013, the M/V Harbour Feature, a 473? tanker, broke her mooring lines at the New Hampshire State Pier in Portsmouth, NH and struck the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, which spans the Piscataqua River between Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The bridge is jointly owned by both states. As a result of the incident, this bridge sustained substantial damage.

Employees working in work zones are continuously exposed to distracted drivers and drivers traveling at high speeds. MaineDOT understands the exposure our employees face on a daily basis and will be heightening the department?s awareness of this issue throughout the year. Improving work zone safety is critical to our Mission and Goals and a new Statewide Capstone will measure the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities in work zone. We were one of the few states in the Country with ZERO Work Zone Fatalities in 2013 and will strive to maintain this distinction.
