The LAP is the Maine Department of Transportation’s commuter bus service between Lewiston/Auburn and Portland, two of Maine’s largest population and job centers. While the LAP’s focus is on connecting workers and potential workers to job opportunities, the service is open to everyone and for all trip purposes.
The LAP is a two-year pilot commuter bus service that will serve as an indicator of the demand and potential market for enhanced public transportation between the Portland and Lewiston/Auburn metropolitan regions. MaineDOT has contracted with RTW Management to provide the service, which began in July 2024.
Service is provided seven days a week, from 5:00 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekends. The LAP makes stops at Bates College, the Lewiston Oak Street Bus Station, the Auburn Transportation Center, the Maine Turnpike Exit 75 park and ride in Auburn, Portland’s Monument Square, and the Portland Transportation Center. The one-way trip takes just over one hour.
