HAMPDEN - As part of the ongoing work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project, the Maine Department of Transportation will be shifting southbound I-95 traffic to the first of four temporary diversion roads on July 20th. This traffic shift will happen at the East Bridge over the Souadabscook Stream. Interstate speeds limits will be reduced to 55 MPH through the diversion for the duration of its use. More southbound traffic shifts will continue as this project progresses through the rest of this year and into 2022.

UPDATE: The start date for this project has been pushed to Sunday, July 18th.

UPDATE: This work will now continue through the rest of the month of July. Crews will be addressing additional drainage work that needs to be done.

WINDHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing bridge joint work on the Narrows Bridge in Windham. The Narrows Bridge carries Route 115 and is about one mile off Route 302. Traffic on Route 115 will only be allowed to travel east (away from Route 302) for the duration of this project. Westbound traffic will be detoured, using Routes 202 and 4. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 26th. The detour will end by Friday, August 13th. Some ancillary work, requiring an alternating single-lane traffic pattern, may occur after that date.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work on Route 202 in Gorham and Windham. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 19th and continue for several months. The project area begins at the intersection of Routes 202 and 25 in Gorham and extends north on Route 202 for almost four miles, ending at Mechanic Street in Windham. This work will include the roundabout at the intersection of Routes 202 and 237. In addition to paving work, crews will be making improvements to sidewalks and pedestrian ramps.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing construction on a five-mile-long stretch of Route 115 in Gray and North Yarmouth. The project area begins east of Hillcrest Drive in Gray and extends southeast to Route 231 (Walnut Road) in North Yarmouth. Crews will be paving as well as improving drainage and guardrails. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 19th and be finished by Friday, August 13th. This will be mostly day work and will require some lane closures, which will involve an alternating pattern of single-lane traffic.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is working with Pan Am Railways and the Cities of Portland and Westbrook to reconstruct two railroad crossings. The Portland crossing is on Route 25 (Rand Road), just west of Pine Tree Industrial Parkway. The Westbrook crossing is on Larrabee Road between Saunders Way and Terminal Street. These two railroad crossings will be reconstructed one at a time. This work will involve road closures and traffic detours. All local businesses will remain open and accessible during this work.

UPDATE: This project did not finished in 2020 due to unusual heat and the COVID-19 pandemic. Work is scheduled to resume on July 19th and be finished by mid-October.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE FROM JULY 2, 2020:

AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Transportation will begin installing new traffic signal equipment in Augusta on Wednesday, July 21st. The first part of this project will involve the intersections along Route 27 (Civic Center Drive) from Route 3 (Old Belgrade Road) to Townsend Road.

LINCOLN COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be deviating from its normal operating schedule for the Southport swing bridge, which carries Route 27 over Townsend Gut between Boothbay Harbor and Southport. This deviation is to accommodate bridge construction work between Wednesday, July 21st and Tuesday, July 27th. The bridge will not open for vessel traffic between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. or between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on July 22nd, 23rd, 26th, or 27th. The bridge will operate on its normal schedule on Saturday, July 24th and Sunday, July 25th.
