HAMPDEN - As part of the ongoing work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project, the Maine Department of Transportation will be shifting southbound I-95 traffic to the second of four temporary diversion roads on July 27th. This traffic shift will happen at the West Bridge over the Souadabscook Stream. Interstate speeds limits will be reduced to 55 MPH through the diversion for the duration of its use. More southbound traffic shifts will continue as this project progresses through the rest of this year and into 2022.

Windham - The Maine Department of Transportation is reminding members of the public to use caution when passing through our work zone at the intersection of Falmouth Road and Route 115 in Windham. This bridge joint replacement project involves lane closures, detours, and new traffic patterns. On-site crews have experienced some close calls. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of MaineDOT staff, our contracting partners, and the members of the traveling public. We're asking members of the public to be patient and extremely careful when navigating this intersection.

HOULTON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing vehicle count sensors on Route 1, approximately one quarter mile north of Currier Road. Work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 10th. The north and southbound lanes will be closed to traffic at 7:00 a.m. for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be finished by the end of the day. In the event of rain, we will push the schedule to Wednesday, August 11th. These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately classify and count the number of vehicles using this road throughout the year.

The Maine Department of Transportation will be opening a new bridge on Route 1A, Wilson Street, which carries traffic over I-395 in Brewer. The bridge is anticipated to open on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021, but may be delayed in the case of inclement weather. All traffic on Route 1A heading east and west will utilize the new bridge. We encourage the traveling public to stay alert while driving through the new traffic pattern. Westbound traffic on Route 1A entering I-395 via ramp C will continue to use the existing, temporary roadway while a new ramp is being constructed.

LINCOLN COUNTY - On Monday, August 2nd, the Maine Department of Transportation will celebrate the opening of the Barters Island Bridge, which connects Barters Island with Hodgdon Island over the Back River in Boothbay Harbor. This bridge replaces the old manually operated one with a fully automated one.

WELLS - The Maine Department of Transportation will be making improvements to the intersection of Routes 109 and 9A in Wells. This project will involve excavation and the installation of a new advanced traffic controller cabinet, strain poles, and advanced optic equipment that will assist with advanced vehicle detection and emergency vehicle preemption. This work will require periodic lane restrictions throughout construction. Work will begin on August 1st and is estimated to be completed in April 2022.

AROOSTOOK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation and the town of Monticello will be temporarily closing Route 1 for their town's 175th-anniversary parade on Saturday, July 31, 2021. The closure will begin at 10 a.m. and last for roughly an hour. The parade route begins at the intersection of the Hoyt and Fletcher roads and continues south, across the Meduxnekeag Bridge, and ends at the Silver and Church Street intersection. Both lanes will be closed during this time.

UPDATE: Because of Friday's rain, this traffic shift is now expected to happen on the morning of Wednesday, August 4th.

YARMOUTH - Ongoing work on the Bayview Street Bridge in Yarmouth will result in significant traffic delays on Wednesday, August 4th. Contractors will be placing the new bridge deck between 6:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Drivers may have to wait as long as eight minutes to accommodate the movement of concrete trucks.

PISCATAQUIS AND SOMERSET COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is performing paving work on parts of Routes 6 and 15 in Piscataquis and Somerset Counties west of Moosehead Lake. The first project area begins 0.17 of a mile east of the Sandwich Academy Grant TWP/Taunton & Raynham Academy Grant town line and extends northeast 5.28 miles to Moose River Lane in Rockwood Strip T1 R1 NBKP. The second project area begins at the Sapling TWP/Big Moose TWP town line and extends south for 5.89 miles. Work started this week and is expected to be finished by September 3rd.
