Engineering
From the earliest planning and design to the final stages of construction, MaineDOT's engineering professionals deliver the projects that keep Maine connected. MaineDOT's environmental professionals help ensure that roads, bridges, and other infrastructure are planned, designed, and built in ways that preserve the state's forests, wetlands, waterways, wildlife, and cultural resources. Equipment Operators
Working from one of MaineDOT's 55 maintenance facilities across the state, our Transportation Workers maintain highways, support construction projects, and operate the trucks and heavy equipment that keep people and goods moving. Whether repairing roads, setting up safe work zones, operating specialized equipment, or serving as a Snowfighter during Maine's toughest winter weather, you'll play a vital role in keeping Maine's transportation system safe and reliable.
These hands-on roles offer paid on-the-job training, including the opportunity to earn your Commercial Driver's License (CDL). As you gain experience, you'll develop new skills, operate a wider range of equipment, and advance into higher-level positions with greater responsibility.

According to the Bureau of Labor Standards, the average employee tenure for state government is 5.7 years and in the private sector it’s 3.5 years. At MaineDOT, our average employee tenure is 7.5 years.
