MACHIAS - The Maine Department of Transportation will be holding an open-house format meeting in Machias on Tuesday, September 14th. The meeting will be held on the causeway from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the history, status, and regulatory requirements of the feasibility study related to the Machias Dyke Bridge. Members of the public will be able to interact with, ask questions of, and provide comments to members of MaineDOT as well as to our federal counterparts and consulting partners.

BRUNSWICK/TOPSHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing a bridge inspection of the Frank J. Wood Bridge between Tuesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 16th. This bridge carries Route 201 between Brunswick and Topsham. The Frank J. Wood Bridge is a fracture critical bridge. The Federal Highway Administration requires inspections of fracture critical bridges at least every two years. Because of the poor condition of the Frank J. Wood Bridge, MaineDOT engineers inspect it annually. The structure is scheduled to be replaced.

JAY - Pan Am Railways will be closing part of Crash Road in Jay on Friday, September 17th to perform railroad repairs. Crash Road will be closed to through-traffic near the intersection of Riley Road between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Drivers should use Route 4 as a detour. Local traffic can access Crash Road at the intersection of Crash Road with Route 4.

EDGECOMB - The Maine Department of Transportation will be making safety improvements to part of Eddy Road in Edgecomb. Crews will be blasting ledge and rebuilding a retaining wall in order to improve sight distance for motorists and make the road easier to maintain in the future.

KITTERY - Final paving operations on the Piscatacqua River (I-95) Bridge in Kittery are scheduled to begin next week. This part of the "Maine Ahead" project remains approximately six weeks ahead of schedule. Final paving had originally been scheduled for early 2022. The contractor, SPS New England, is now planning to make the following closures to accommodate final paving work on the bridge and its approaches.

The northbound left lane will close during the following periods:

MADAWASKA - The Madawaska-Edmundston International Bridge Replacement Project will involve night work for approximately two weeks. The contractor is planning to do excavation work from Monday, September 20th through Saturday, October 2nd. The work will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and end at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Day work will also continue during this period.

HANCOCK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation and its consulting partners will be conducting survey work on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge from Tuesday, September 28th through Wednesday, October 6th. This work will require partial and full closures of the bridge.

Drivers should expect alternating, single-lane traffic patterns between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on four different days: Tuesday, September 28th; Wednesday, September 29th; Friday, October 1st; and Wednesday, October 6th. Flaggers will control traffic.

HAMPDEN - As part of the ongoing work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project, the Maine Department of Transportation will be shifting traffic onto the fourth of four new northbound I-95 bridges (the Emerson Mill Road Bridge) on September 27th. In the event of bad weather, the shift will take place on September 28th. This substantially completes the replacements of the four northbound interstate bridges. Finish work will continue and may result in additional traffic impacts.

PORTLAND - One month from today, the Maine Department of Transportation will be closing I-295 over Veranda Street in Portland for a full weekend to accommodate the replacement of an aging interstate bridge. MaineDOT's "Veranda Plan" a full closure of the highway around Exit 9 will run from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25th. Additionally, Route 1/Veranda Street (under the bridge) will be closed for a full week: from 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18th to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25th.

KITTERY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing the I-95 northbound Exit 7 on-ramp in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for five days next week to accommodate continued paving operations on the Piscataqua River (I-95) Bridge and its approaches. The Exit 7 on-ramp will close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26th and reopen by 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1st. There will be a signed detour route and a police presence. This ramp closure is necessary to increase safety for our crews and members of the traveling public.
