Searsport Culvert Replacement and Road Closure

SEARSPORT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert on Mt Ephraim Road in Searsport. The project area is just north of Route 1. Work is scheduled to begin on August 10th and be finished by September 4th. This culvert replacement will involve a full road closure that could last for 14 days. The detour route is 3.5 miles and will be marked by signage. The contractor on this project is Gardner Construction Enterprises out of Bangor. The contract amount is $254,000.

Culvert Replacement and Road Closure in Lovell

LOVELL - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing a culvert in Lovell. This work requires the full closure of Harbor Road at Creek Brook Bridge. Harbor Road is closed from Union Hill Road to Shave Hill Road. Local traffic is allowed. Other traffic will follow a signed detour. This detour is expected to be in place until August 27th. The anticipated full completion date of the project is September 12th. The contractor on this project is Cross Excavation of Bethel. The contract amount is $742,560.

Culvert Replacement in Dixfield

DIXFIELD - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a box culvert under Durrells Mills Bridge, which carries Norton Road over Newton Brook in Dixfield. The project area is just west of the intersection of Norton Road and Main Street (Route 2). Work is scheduled to begin on August 10th. Between August 19th and September 5th, temporary traffic signals will control an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern on a temporary detour roadway. Oversized loads and tractor-trailers will not be allowed. We expect this culvert replacement project will be fully completed in October.

Signal Upgrades in Holden

HOLDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation will be upgrading traffic signals at the intersection of Routes 1 and 46 in Holden. This upgrade will help improve traffic flow and safety. Work is scheduled to begin on August 10th and be finished by August 31st. These upgrades will include the installation of a new advanced vehicle detection system and short-range communications technology. Drivers should expect minor traffic delays. Uniformed police officers will control traffic when the signal is shut off. The contractor on this project is Dagle Electrical Construction of Wilmington, MA.

Work Will Require Temporary Bridge Closure in Madawaska

MADAWASKA - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing additional work on the existing International Bridge between Madawaska, Maine and Edmundston, New Brunswick on Monday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 18th. This work will involve use of a drill rig to collect additional geotechnical and environmental data to support construction of the proposed International Bridge. This work will require closure of the existing bridge between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. EST on each day. The sidewalk will remain open.

Route 1 Paving Work in Wiscasset and Woolwich

WISCASSET AND WOOLWICH - Next week, the Maine Department of Transportation will be starting a paving project on Route 1 in Wiscasset and Woolwich. The project area begins a quarter-mile north of Montsweag in Woolwich and extends north for nearly four miles, ending just south of where Route 1 meets Route 27 in Wiscasset. In addition to paving work, this project will include drainage and safety improvements. Drivers should expect a single-lane traffic pattern between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Sunday nights to Friday mornings.

Wilson Street Bridge Replacement Project Beginning in Brewer

BREWER - The Maine Department of Transportation will be beginning construction on the new Wilson Street Bridge in Brewer next week. Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 18th. The estimated completion date for this project is November 1st, 2021. The Wilson Street Bridge carries Route 1A over I-395. The contractor on this project is Wyman & Simpson, Inc. out of Richmond. The contract amount is $10,744,239.

Traffic Sensor Work in Newport

NEWPORT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing traffic count sensors on Route 7/11 in Newport next week. The work area is just south of the Corinna line. We will be closing the southbound lane on Tuesday, August 18th and closing the northbound lane on Wednesday, August 19th. Each day, work should start at 8:00 a.m. and will likely be finished by 4:00 p.m. Like all outdoor construction work, this work is weather-dependent. These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately classify and count the number of vehicles using this highway throughout the year.

Route 4 Road Improvements in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be sealing cracks along Route 4 in Franklin County. The project area begins in Strong, about one mile north of the Farmington line, and extends north for approximately 16.5 miles. Drivers should expect lane closures and an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern on Route 4. This project also involves crack-sealing work at the MaineDOT Region 3 Office in Wilton. Work is scheduled to begin on August 24th and end on September 1st. The contractor on this project is Coastal Road Repair of Windham. The contract amount is $80,688.

Culvert Replacement in Alna

ALNA - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert on Route 218 in Alna next week. The project location is just south of West Alna Road. Work is scheduled to begin on August 24th and be finished by August 28th. Traffic will be detoured between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day. The contractor on this project is Emery Lee & Sons of Millinocket. The contract amount is $76,437.
