Interstate Paving in Penobscot County

PENOBSCOT COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving, bridge, and safety work along I-95 in between Carmel and Old Town. This project will involve nightly lane closures and ramp closures with detours. Work is scheduled to begin on August 23rd. We plan to suspend operations for the winter months on November 13th and complete the project in 2021. The contractor on this work is Pike Industries out of Fairfield. The contract amount is $12,750,343.

Bridge Work in Athens

ATHENS - The Maine Department of Transportation will be making improvements to Wesserunsett Bridge in Athens. Wesserunsett Bridge carries Route 43 over Wesserunsett Stream. This project involves work on the bridge's guardrails, curbs, and walls. Drivers should expect an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern during daytime hours. We don't expect any traffic impacts overnight. The contractor on this project is N.F. Luce of Ansen. The contract amount is $99,100. Work is scheduled to begin on August 26th and be finished by September 19th.

Frank J. Wood Bridge Inspection

BRUNSWICK/TOPSHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing a bridge inspection of the Frank J. Wood Bridge on September 1st and 2nd. This bridge carries Route 201 between Brunswick and Topsham. The Frank J. Wood Bridge is a fracture critical bridge. The Federal Highway Administration requires inspections of fracture critical bridges at least every two years. Because of the poor condition of the Frank J. Wood Bridge, MaineDOT engineers inspect it annually. Our inspection work will impact traffic. Drivers should expect impacts between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on both days.

More Overnight Ramp Paving on Route 1 in Bath

BATH - The Maine Department of Transportation will be conducting more overnight paving work on Route 1 in Bath. Between 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27th and 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th, crews will be paving the Congress Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp on the southbound side of Route 1. These ramps will be closed during paving operations. Signs will direct drivers to detours. We need to close the ramps during paving operations due to the size of the equipment and the safety of the traveling public and workers.

Ohio Street Bridge Work Nearing Completion

BANGOR - The Ohio Street Bridge replacement project in Bangor is nearing completion. Construction of the new bridge continues. In the coming weeks, crews will focus on restoring the I-95 traffic pattern and finishing weather-sensitive night work. The Maine Department of Transportation plans to open the new bridge to traffic in early October. We appreciate the patience of the members of the traveling public while we complete this important work.

More Overnight Ramp Paving Along Route 1 in Bath

BATH - The Maine Department of Transportation is conducting more overnight paving work on Route 1 in Bath this week. This work is part of a larger paving project on Route 1 that stretches more than five miles from the Cook's Corner Interchange in Brunswick to the Bath Viaduct and Sagadahoc Bridge. Northeast Paving is the contractor on this project. The current contract amount is $17,066,562.

I-95 Northbound Ramp Work in Penobscot County

PENOBSCOT COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be the on- and off-ramps at Exits 217 and 228 on the northbound side of I-95 between Monday, September 14th and Friday, September 18th. Paving operations will require ramp closures between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Message boards are already in place to alert drivers. This work is part of an ongoing project affecting the northbound side of the interstate between Argyle and T2 R8 NWP. The contractor on this project is Northeast Paving.

Route 2 Bridge Work in New Sharon

NEW SHARON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing bridge joints on the Sandy River Bridge. The bridge carries Route 2 over the Sandy River in New Sharon. Work is scheduled to begin on September 8th and is scheduled to be finished by October 30th. A temporary traffic signal will control an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern. The contractor on this project is BMB Construction of Brewer. The contract amount is $396,000. Surface pavement on the Sandy River Bridge will be completed in June 2021.

Route 108 Culvert Work in Canton

CANTON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be reinforcing a culvert over Childs Brook on Route 108 (Pleasant Street) in Canton from September 8th to October 1st. The project area is three-quarters of a mile north of the Route 140 intersection. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during this work. The contractor on this project is C.L.H. & Son of Auburn. The contract amount is $145,000.

Route 15 Paving Work in Orrington

ORRINGTON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be conducting pavement preservation work on Route 15 in Orrington. The project area begins one-tenth of a mile west of Snow's Corner Road and extends east for 0.88 miles. Work is scheduled to begin on September 14th and be finished by October 21st. Drivers should expect temporary daytime lane closures with alternating, one-way traffic during working hours. The contractor on this project is Northeast Paving of Hermon. The contract amount is $784,094.
