Readfield Fatal Crash

On Sunday, October, 20, 2022 at approximately 3:00pm, Maine State Troopers responded to the area  of Scribner Hill Rd and Gorden Rd in Readfield for a reported single vehicle crash with serious injury and entrapment. Once on scene Troopers discovered the female driver 43-year-old Martha Shellman of Maine (the town is not known at this time) was already deceased. Martha had been operating a 2012 Dodge Journey southbound on Gorden Rd when she crossed the center line, went off the road and crash head on into a tree. Martha is believed to have been involved in another crash minutes prior in Belgrade. The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Belgrade crash. Speed and alcohol are both considered factors in the crash, but further investigation is needed. Martha was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. 

Assisting the Maine State Police are the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Readfield FD and Winthrop Rescue.
 

Van Buren man creates police standoff after assaulting local man

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 9:17 am, the Maine State Police received a report of a man identified as 35-year-old Corey Vick, who was outside of a residence at 154 Castonguay Rd. in Van Buren, acting erratically.  At 9:25 am, the State Police received a call from a woman reporting that her husband had been assaulted by Vick outside the residence in an unprovoked attack.  The woman and her husband were able to flee the area to safety.  Troopers, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Border Patrol Agents responded to Castonguay Rd. to locate Vick.  When they arrived on scene, they determined that Vick was inside the residence and was verbally aggressive towards law enforcement and attempting to entice them to enter the residence. Vick reported that he had a firearm and would kill officers if they entered his home.  Law Enforcement set up a perimeter and began to contact him by cell phone.  The man continued to taunt and threaten to kill law enforcement if they came into the residence.  The State Police Tactical Team was consulted and responded to the scene along with the Crisis Intervention Team.  The Castonguay road was shut down. A search warrant was issued for the residence at 154 Castonguay Rd. and an arrest warrant was issued for Vick's arrest. The Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to deescalate Vick throughout the night without success.  At approximately 6:30 am on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the Tactical Team made entry into Vick's residence and took him into custody.  Vick was transported to Cary Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and then transported to the Aroostook County Jail.  Vick has been charged with two counts of Assault, Criminal        Threatening, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Criminal Mischief, and creating a police standoff.

Silver Alert: Michael Holmes

Michael HolmesThe Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for 71-year old Michael Holmes of Vienna. Mr. Holmes was last seen on foot leaving a residence on Tower Road in Vienna Thursday , October 6, 2022 with plans to go to Winthrop. He has not been seen by family since. Mr. Holmes who suffers from cognitive issues is a white male, 6’00”, 225 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. Mr. Holmes does not have his cell phone on him and it is unknown what he was last wearing. Silver Alert: Davis Madore

The Brewer Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 72-year-old Davis Madore. Mr. Madore is described as a white male, 5’10”, with gray hair and a long gray beard, and blue eyes. Mr. Madore was staying at the Vacationland Inn in Brewer and was last seen at 5 p.m. on Oct. 6. When the caller went to check on him at 10 a.m. he was not in his room but had left all of his belongings in his room, including his jacket and shoes. He may be wearing a faded blue shirt and blue jeans. Mr. Madore has cognitive issues and may be in a confused state an unable to relay his name. If anyone comes in contact, please call 911 or 207-945-4636.

AMBER Alert

 

The AMBER Alert has been cancelled. The children are safe and the mother is in custody in Massachusetts. Additional information will be released by the Saco Police Department.

Silver Alert Deborah Davidson-Stewart

The Saco Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 66-year old Deborah Davidson-Stewart of Saco. Deborah lives at 30 South Street and has not been heard from since Monday, September 25, 2022. Deborah who has had some mental health issues posted on Facebook she was in the Portland area, possibly at the Oxford Street Shelter but she has not been seen or located. Deborah is a white female, 5’ 04”, 150lbs. with red hair and blue eyes. Her clothing is unknown. If you see Deborah or have any information please call the Saco Police Department at 207.284.4535.
 

SILVER ALERT  Claude Lamothe

The Maine State Police has issued a Silver Alert for 83-year old Claude Lamothe of Connor Township. Lamothe was last seen Saturday, September 24, 2022 at approximately 3:30 pm leaving Daigle Oil in Caribou. Lamothe who suffers from cognitive issues may be headed to the Augusta area. Lamothe is a white male, 5’ 11”, 200 lbs. with white hair and brown eyes. He is driving a white GMC 1500, Maine license plate 8749YN. If located please call 1-800-924-2261 OR 207-532-5400. 
 

Col. John Cote to Retire

Col John CoteColonel John Cote has announced his retirement effective September 30, 2022 after 33 years of service with the Maine State Police.  Colonel Cote and his command staff team have lead the agency through some of the agency’s most high profile incidents and during trying times for the law enforcement profession.

Colonel Cote has accepted a position with Bison Transportation USA as their Eastern Region Director of Safety with Hartt Transportation Systems. 

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve as a Maine Trooper for over three decades.  I have worked with many outstanding people who will continue to make the Maine State Police a premiere agency dedicated to keeping Maine a safe place to live and visit.”  
 

Maine State Police investigating child’s death in Naples

On Saturday, September 17, 2022 at  approximately 1:06 pm the Cumberland Country Regional Communications Center received a 911 call from the area of Lambs Mills Road in Naples. Shortly after the call the Naples Fire Department reported there was an unresponsive 2-year-old child at their station. Cumberland County Deputies responded and learned the child, a male, was struck in the driveway of a residence on Lambs Mills Road. Life saving measures at the fire department were unable to revive the boy and the child was pronounced deceased. Due to the age of the child, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit responded. The investigation revealed the father of the child was moving a pickup truck and camper trailer and unable to see the child when the child was struck.  The parents immediately grabbed the child and transported him to the Naples Fire Department. At this time names of all involved are being withheld pending notification of additional family members. 

This was a difficult scene for all involved. We urge the media to respect the privacy of the family at this time.

UPDATE: Susan Hayes of Kittery has been safely located.

The Kittery Police Department is issuing a Silver Alert for 70-year-old of Susan Hayes of Kittery. Hayes was last seen at her home on Picott Rd in Kittery on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at approximately 12:00 am. When her husband woke this morning at 5:30 am Susan was not home. She is believed to have wandered away on foot, her destination is unknown. Hayes, who suffers from some cognitive issues is a white female , 5’2”, 115 lbs., with gray hair and hazel eyes. Susan was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue hat and ankle boots. If you have any information or see Susan Hayes please check well-being and call the Kittery Police Department at 207.439.1638.
