  • Northern Field Troop Weekly Report for Nov. 6 to Nov. 12

    On Nov. 10, 2022,  Tr. Bean responded a residence on the West Corinth Road in Corinth for the report of a wood splitter theft.  When Tr. Bean arrived on scene, he met with complainant who stated that he had a Countyline wood splitter in the gravel pit behind his house that had been stolen sometime within the past week.  This matter is still under investigation. Anyone with information should call 207-973-3700 X9.

    On Nov. 10, 2022, Tr. Bean responded to business in Corinth, for the report of a suspicious male.  It was originally reported that the male was standing at the coffee machine for over 30 minutes trying to make a cup of coffee, but he was falling asleep on his feet.  When Tr. Bean arrived on scene, he came in contact Jason Lagasse (41), who was clearly impaired.  Further investigation revealed that Jason had an outstanding arrest warrant for operation after habitual offender revocation.  Jason was subsequently placed under arrest and searched.  During the search, 1 gram of fentanyl was located in Jason’s sock.  Jason was ultimately transported to Penobscot County Jail for the violations. 

    On Nov. 11, 2022, Tr. Bean received information that Andrew Will (34) had 4 outstanding arrest warrants out of Cumberland and Penobscot Counties for burglary, theft and operating after habitual offender revocation. Trooper Bean also received a report that Will was staying in Hudson.  Tr. Bean went to the address and was able to make contact Andrew Will.  After confirming the warrant with Bangor RCC, he placed Andrew under arrest and transported him to Penobscot County Jail.

    On Nov. 5, 2022, Tr. Peterson stopped a vehicle in Mattawamkeag for not having functional lights. The operator, Gerald Obrikis, 49, had a suspended driver’s license. Gerald was driving his Ford Ranger and towing a utility trailer that the lights were not working on. Tr. Peterson charged Gerald with OAS and Gerald had 2 friends come pick him and his truck up at the Big Apple in Mattawamkeag.

    On Nov. 7, 2022, Tr. Creamer was dispatched to a report of a crash at mile marker 188 northbound in Bangor.  Tr. Creamer, Tr. Belanger and Sgt. Coover responded.  Through the investigation Joseph Walls 55yro of Old Town went off the road to the left and hit a bridge abutment.  Joseph was transported to NLEMMC by Bangor Rescue for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.   

    On Nov. 6, 2022, Tr. Olmstead stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on I-95 for 105 in a 70 MPH zone in Carmel. Attached to the stopped vehicle were homemade plates. Operator of the vehicle, William White, 26 of Alexander, presented an ID card from the “National Assembly” which stated that he was traveling and not driving. The card also directed law enforcement to not stop or detain William. Tr. Olmstead placed William under arrest. Tr. Olmstead transported William to the Penobscot County Jail where he was booked for Criminal Speed, Operating Without a License, and Attaching False Plates. 

    On Nov. 12, 2022, Tr. Kurth arrested Kellen Wessling, 45 of Howland, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Tr. Kurth stopped Wessling for driving 87MPH on Route 2 near the Enfield/Lincoln town line. Wessling’s BRaC was over the legal limit.

    On Nov. 12, 2022, Tr. Kurth arrested Dakota Walker, 26 of Lincoln, for domestic assault. Lincoln PD was tied up on an OUI crash and requested State Police assistance with a disorderly call. Tr. Kurth located several men fighting at 12 Lee Rd., Lincoln.  As a result of the investigation, Walker was charged with DV Assault, Escape, and Resisting. Walker also had an active warrant out of Androscoggin County. 

    On Nov. 9, 2022, Tr. Mattson received a complaint of a violation of a protection order. The complainant reported that Justin Bulley (29) Trenton had violated the protection order through the mail. Bulley was currently an inmate at the Hancock County Jail. 
    Justin Bulley was summoned for the violation.  

    On Nov. 10, 2022, a traffic complaint was called in from Sedgewick Tr. Chapman located the offending vehicle and the operator Eben Powers (31) of Blue Hill. As a result of the investigation Powers was arrested for OUI and transported and booked into the Hancock County jail. Powers was charged with OUI and issued a court date.  
     

  • Active Shooter Hoaxes

    The Department of Public Safety is aware of multiple active shooter threats that have been made at schools throughout the state. Maine State Police have been assisting local law enforcement agencies with these initial investigations. 

    At this time these reports are believed to be a hoax. The Maine Information Analysis Center (MIAC) is heavily involved in coordinating these investigations. 
     

  • Maine State Police investigate Home Invasion and Homicide in Washington County

    On Thursday, November 17, 2022 at approximately 9:17 pm the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Tenan lane in Cherryfield for reports of a home invasion. When Deputies arrived they discovered an adult female with serious injuries, an adult male with minor injuries and an adult male who was deceased. The female was transported to a local hospital. At this time her injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Maine State Police Detectives from Major Crimes Unit North and members of the Evidence Response Team were called to assist in the investigation. The deceased, 36-year-old Matthew Adams of Linneus was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed Friday morning. His death has been ruled a homicide. 

    The State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and home invasion. Police do not believe there is an ongoing public safety risk. No other information is available at this time.

  • Troop F Weekly Report 11-14 to 11-20-22

    Trooper:                TR. CASTONGUAY

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Castonguay was conducting traffic enforcement on State Route 11, T8 R5 WELS, and observed a vehicle driving criminal speed, 94 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.  Tr. Castonguay stopped the vehicle and then the man stated he did not realize he was driving so fast.  Tr. Castonguay issued the man a criminal summons for exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph or more.

    Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement in Patten when he met a vehicle driving south with the windshield smashed obstructing the drivers view.  The vehicle was stopped and after an investigation it was found the vehicle was not registered, insured, and the driver has a suspended Florida driver’s license due to child support.  The woman was issued a criminal summons for operating without a license and issued a traffic summons for the insurance violation and operating without approved safety glass.  The vehicle was towed from the roadway, and she planned to stay with friends in Sherman.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Roy was driving south in Presque Isle where there are four lanes.  A vehicle passed him going south and then immediately slowed, keeping its brakes activated.  Tr. Roy conducted a registration query and learned the vehicles registration was expired.  Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop and further investigation revealed the driver has a suspended Maine driver’s license and did not have insurance on the car.  The man was issued a criminal summons for OAS and a traffic summons for the insurance violation.  The car was left in a parking lot and the man arranged for a licensed driver to come get him.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Oakfield and observed a vehicle driving with an expired inspection certificate.  A traffic stop was conducted and after an investigation it was discovered the driver had a suspended Maine driver’s license.  The man said he knew it was suspended for medical reasons two years ago, never took care of it, and has been driving ever since.  The man was issued a criminal summons for OAS and a licensed driver came and got him and his vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Rider was conducting traffic enforcement in Mapleton when he observed a vehicle with an incomplete/defective exhaust system.  After initiating a traffic stop, it was discovered the registration plates were falsely attached the driver has a revoked Maine driver’s license.  Tr. Rider issued the man a criminal summons for both violations and had the vehicle towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Castonguay stopped a vehicle on Interstate 95, Island Falls, for a traffic infraction.  After an investigation, Tr. Castonguay discovered the vehicles registration plate was suspended and flagged inactive.  Tr. Castonguay spoke with the driver and issued him a criminal summons for operating with a suspended registration.  Tr. Castonguay allowed the man to take the vehicle home since it was only a few miles.

    Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Kilcollins, Tr. Martin, and other members of the ERT assisted MCU-North at a homicide scene in Cherryfield. Cpl. Kilcollins and Tr. Martin assisted in executing warrants, searching scenes, photographing the scenes, and evidence collection.

    Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Kilcollins and Tr. Martin responded to a neighborhood dispute in Caswell. A female had called 911 and reported that she had been assaulted by her next-door neighbor. Cpl. Kilcollins interviewed the female caller who advised that her next-door neighbor had come to her house and started a physical altercation with her. The female advised that the female had punched her a few times in the body. They went next door and spoke with the other female who advised them that she too was attacked by the female caller. After interviewing all people involved the next-door neighbor was summonsed for Assault and given a trespass notice for the caller’s property.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Levesque and Tr. Martin responded to a disturbance at a local school. A female showed up at the school to pick up her stepchild. The staff at the school advised the female smelled like alcohol and they were not letting her take the child. Tr. Levesque and Tr. Martin arrived at the school and spoke with the female. At the end of Tr. Levesque’s investigation, he placed the female under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol. The female was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Operating After Suspension.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Sylvia & Tr. Curtin responded to a residence in Westfield after a report of a vehicle that drove into the woods.  Investigation revealed that the 64-year-old male had missed his driveway and driven onto his lawn and around the house. The male was passed out in the vehicle when Troopers arrived and was arrested for OUI.

  • Troop G Weekly Report - 11/14/2022 - 11/20/2022

    On 11/17/2022, Cpl. Cote stopped Courtney Brunelle (28) on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland for Criminal Speed (90/50 Work Zone).  She was charged with Criminal Speed.

    On 11/18/2022, Cpl. Cote stopped Jose Alberto Mabricio Vega (24) of Auburn on the ME Turnpike northbound in Auburn for Criminal Speed (107/70).  He was charged with Criminal Speed and his vehicle was towed away after it was determined that he did not have a license.

    On 11/19/2022, Tr. Wilcox contacted Matthew Mulcahy (25) of New Hampshire on the ME turnpike southbound in Wells. Tr. Wilcox administered standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs) and placed him under arrest. He refused to submit to a breath test. He was issued a summons for Operating the Influence of Alcohol. The vehicle was towed. Tr. Ellis (FTO) and Tr. Phillips assisted.

    On 11/20/2022, Tr. Phillips was set up around MM 19 looking for a vehicle that had passed Sgt. Casey traveling at over 100 mph southbound from Biddeford. Tr. Phillips located a vehicle matching the description given, southbound at MM 19 traveling at 106 mph. Tr. Phillips positioned himself behind the vehicle and initiated his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle immediately increased its speed and began evading Tr. Phillips, who was able to identify the registration prior to terminating the chase at the NH border. NH SP was notified and was able to locate the vehicle on RT 1 in Portsmouth. The vehicle had pulled into the gas station to fuel up when NH SP surrounded the vehicle, taking three subjects into custody without incident. The driver was summonsed for Eluding an Officer, Operating After Suspension, Criminal Speed, and Driving to Endanger. NH SP also took the subject into custody for OAS and DTE.

  • SILVER ALERT: William Broomall

    BroomallUPDATE: He has been located safely. Thank you for your assistance.

    The Portland Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 40-year-old William Broomall of Portland. Broomall was last seen November 17, 2022 when he left his group home on Forest Avenue and did not return. Broomall is a white male, 5’10”, 200 lbs., with brown hair, hazel eyes and a goatee. Broomall who has intellectual disabilities is known to wander around the city and typically wears a gray fanny pack, sweatpants and is possibly wearing a green Celtics hooded sweatshirt. If anyone sees William Broomall please call the Portland Police Department at 207.874.8575.
     

  • Troop G Weekly Report - 11/21/2022 - 11/27/2022

    On 11/23/2022, Tr. Verhille responded to a motor vehicle crash on the ME turnpike in Litchfield. The operator, David Smith (24) of Lewiston, had an outstanding warrant. Smith was transported to KCJ on the warrant.

    On 11/24/2022, Tr. Verhille stopped Katie Mermelstein (40) of Winthrop for speeding 113/70 on the ME turnpike in Scarborough. Upon further investigation, Tr. Verhille could smell the odor of intoxicants and determined Mermelstein was impaired. She was transported to Scarborough PD where an intoxilyzer determined she had a BAC over the legal limit.  She was summonsed for criminal speed and operating under the influence.

    On 11/25/2022, Tr. Anstett responded to I-95 in Waterville for a multi-vehicle crash with fatality. Preliminary investigation revealed weather and speed were factors. Tr, Anstett conducted a reconstruction and drone scene mapping to expedite reopening the interstate.

    On 11/27/2022,Tr. Foley stopped to check on a vehicle that was parked blocking traffic on I-95 at mile marker 86 south. The operator of the vehicle, Earle Shepardson (50), displayed signs of intoxication. At the conclusion of the investigation, Tr. Foley arrested Shepardson for OUI. Shepardson was transported to Lewiston PD where he blew above the legal limit.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Desrosier was driving through Fort Kent and observed a vehicle commit a traffic infraction.  He stopped the vehicle and after an investigation found the registration plates were falsely attached.  The driver was issued a criminal summons for the violation and the vehicle was towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Desrosier was parked in Frenchville and observed a vehicle driving towards Fort Kent and recognized the driver.  Suspecting he did not have a valid driver’s license, Tr. Desrosier contacted the RCC dispatcher, requested a license query, and found the man has a revoked driver’s license.  The vehicle was stopped and he  was issued a criminal summons for OAR and arranged to have a licensed driver come get him and his vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Presque Isle and observed a vehicle pulling a trailer; the trailer did not have functional lights.  A traffic stop was initiated and after an investigation, it was found the driver had a suspended driver’s license.  Tr. Roy issued the man a criminal summons for OAS and a traffic warning for not having working lights on the trailer.  A licensed driver came and got the man and his vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Castonguay and Tr. Rider conducted taser recertification for members of Troop F, at the Army National Guard facility in Presque Isle and Barracks in Houlton.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Castonguay was driving in Crystal when he observed a man shoot a deer from his pickup on the public way.  Tr. Castonguay stopped to speak with the man, identified him, and called for a Game Warden to address the issue.  .

    Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Kilcollins was driving in Presque Isle when he noticed a vehicle in the ditch. Cpl. Kilcollins stopped to check on the occupants. Cpl. Kilcollins walked up to the driver’s window and asked the female driver to roll the window down.. Cpl. Kilcollins put the female driver through standardized field sobriety tests and  the female was placed under arrest and transported to Presque Isle Police Department for an intoxilyzer test.. The female was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and later bailed and released.

    Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Kilcollins was called to a crash on Route 1A in Mars Hill. When Cpl. Kilcollins arrived on scene, he observed a vehicle that was in the bushes. Cpl. Kilcollins spoke with the male driver who was standing on the side of the roadway. Based on the crash and the smell of intoxicants Cpl. Kilcollins put the male through standardized field sobriety tests after which, the male was placed under arrest and transported to Presque Isle Police Department for an intoxilyzer test. The male was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and later bailed and released.

    Brief Synopsis:      Every year, Jonathan Ellis, owner of Ellis Family Market in Patten and his employees team up with the Maine State Police to deliver Thanksgiving Day baskets donated by his store to needy families in the northern Penobscot /southern Aroostook County areas.  This year, Jon donated a total of 40 baskets to area families.  On Wednesday, Tr. Timmy Saucier and Tr. Laney Merchant assisted with the deliveries.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Saucier arrested a Stacyville man on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear on charges of OUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and violation of conditional release. Tr. Saucier located the male at a local gas station and transported him to the Troop F barracks where he later made bail. He is due to appear in Houlton District Court in January.

    Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Curtin began investigating a theft complaint in Hamlin. The victim called to report that her bank account information was compromised when she wire-transferred money for rent to her landlord overseas. She reported that unauthorized transactions totaling $10,000 had been withdrawn from her checking account. Tr. Curtin is working with the District Attorney’s Office to further this investigation. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:      A female called to report cash stolen from her residence in Chapman. Tr. Curtin began investigating the complaint and learned the female victim discovered the large amount of cash missing after she had a social gathering at her house. The investigation is ongoing.
