  • Sanford Man Faces Charges for Violating PFA Order from Jail

    LeclairA Sanford man is facing additional charges after he called the victim from the jail to dissuade her from pressing charges.

    On October 13, 2019, the Maine State Police out of Troop A arrested a Scott Leclair, 47, of Sanford, for Violation of a Protection Order in Alfred. The victim had obtained a protection order against Leclair and it was learned that he violated the order by sending her numerous text messages. It was also learned that Leclair was a suspect in breaking into the victim's homes and stealing items. Leclair was transported to the York County Jail.

    On October 14, 2019, the victim advised State Police that Leclair had contacted her from the York County Jail requesting that she drop the charges against him. Leclair was subsequently re-arrested and charged with felony Tampering with a Victim and a second count of Violation of a Protection Order. He is being held at the York County and will make his first court appearance on Wednesday.

  • Citizens take Keys from Reportedly Intoxicated Driver

    Maine State Troopers say that an alert homeowner helped stop an intoxicated motorist that had parked in their driveway.

    On October 14, 2019, at approximately 1:13 p.m., Maine State Police out of Troop A received a report from a resident on South Street in Dayton that an intoxicated motorist had pulled into their driveway. The resident took the keys from the vehicle due to the high level of intoxication by the driver. It was also learned that the Biddeford Police Department had received a report of this same vehicle operating erratically in their city.

    When Troopers arrived on scene they observed the driver, Brittany Boudreau, 29, of Cumberland, throw a phone onto the ground damaging it. It was learned this phone belonged to one of the residents that called police.

    Boudreau was uncooperative and was arrested for OUI-Liquor and Criminal Mischief. On the way to the jail she attempted to get out of the cruiser and had to be further restrained. She refused to take an intoxilyzer test at the jail and was booked on her charges.

    She failed to make bail and will make her first court appearance in Springvale District court on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

  • Hollis Man Arrested for Felony Assault

    On October 13, 2019, Maine State Police Troop A, responded to a residence on Palmer Lane in Hollis for a reported domestic violence assault with strangulation. Troopers arrived on scene and as a result of the investigation arrested Tyler Strout, 32, of Hollis, for the felony assault.

    Strout was held without bail at the York County Jail and will make his first appearance on Tuesday.

    The victim was transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford for treatment.

  • Maine State Police K9 Dutch to get donation of body armor

    Maine State Police K9 Dutch will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Dutch’s vest is sponsored by Madeline Hamersley of Sorrento, ME and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Detective Benjamin Campbell, EOW 4/3/19”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

    Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,500 U.S. made, custom fitted, NIJ certified protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7 million dollars. 

    The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate.

    The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest has a value between $1,744 – $2,283 and a five-year warranty, and an average weight of 4-5 lbs.     Brief Synopsis:       Lt. Harris, Sgt. Clark, Cpl. Quint, Det. Duff, and Tr. Martin assisted Federal DEA and MDEA with the execution of several warrants in various towns for crimes involving drugs and drug trafficking.  All suspects were arrested without incident.

    Brief Synopsis:       Sgt. Clark assisted the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department with an investigation in Easton.  A woman called the Sheriff’s Department stating earlier in the day she suspects she hit someone on a bicycle on State Route 10 in either Presque Isle or Easton.  Sgt. Clark assisted with the investigation which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.

    Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint was driving south on US Highway 1, Bridgewater and observed a vehicle driving north at a high rate of speed.  It was estimated the vehicle was driving 90 mph in a posted 55 mph zone and radar showed the vehicle to be driving 87 mph.  Cpl. Quint stopped the vehicle and the female driver stated she was low on gas and was hurrying to the nearest gas station.  Further investigation showed she had a suspended driver’s license from North Carolina.  Cpl. Quint issued the woman a criminal summons for her speed and one for operating without a license in Maine.  The vehicle was towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint and Tr. Kilcollins were working on an unrelated incident in Mars Hill.  They stopped for a motorcycle that was parked on the side of the West Ridge Road, Mars Hill, to check the driver.  The man was known to both Troopers and it was also known he had a suspended driver’s license.  The man also had bail conditions due to pending drug and traffic (OAS) charges.  The man was arrested for OAS and violating his conditions of release.  The man told Troopers he was just taking his girlfriend to buy marijuana and knew he was not supposed to be driving.  He was arrested and transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.  The motorcycle was towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint was parked along US Highway 1, Littleton, completing a crash report from an unrelated incident.  A vehicle went past at a high rate of speed and it was estimated at 100 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.  Cpl. Quint confirmed the vehicle was driving 95 mph and was stopped about a mile south of where he was parked.  The man stated he did not think he was driving that fast.  He was issued a criminal summons for the violation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Det. Duff was conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 95, Ludlow.  He observed a vehicle driving approximately 90 mph in a posted 75 mph zone.  Det. Duff conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver stated he was going to Fort Fairfield from Bangor to meet his girlfriend.  Further investigation revealed the man had a suspended driver’s license due to him not maintaining liability insurance.  The man was issued a criminal summons for the violation and the vehicle was removed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins is currently investigating the theft of an enclosed snowmobile trailer that was parked at a seasonal residence in Woodland.  The property owner arrived and discovered the theft and stated there was a snowmobile inside the trailer as well.  Tr. Kilcollins is currently following leads for this investigation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Det. Duff is currently investigating a theft of a water heater, pellet stove, and washer/dryer from a residence in Patten.  The property owner stated she had rented the home to a local man but was forced to evict him.  When he left, he took the above items with him.  Tr. Duff is currently working to locate and interview the man regarding this incident.

    Brief Synopsis:       Since responding to a crash in Westfield where a man drove his truck into the river over a week ago, Tr. Kilcollins has been searching for the driver.  Today he was continuing his efforts and observed a man, who he believed was his suspect, run behind a house in Westfield.  Lt. Harris, Sgt. Clark, Cpl. Quint, and Tr. Sylvia with K-9 Ziva responded.  Tr. Sylvia and Ziva began to track the suspect and quickly located him hiding in the brush along the river bank.  The man was arrested without incident and faces numerous criminal charges including leaving the scene of a crash, operating after suspension, trafficking a schedule “w” drug, and four counts of violating conditions of release.  During his apprehension, Ziva bit the man in his hand causing a small puncture.  He was treated medically by Troopers at the scene, taken to the emergency room at Houlton Regional Hospital, and then transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Levesque responded to Mapleton for a report of an intoxicated male who stuck a telephone pole with a lawn mower.  A passerby stopped at a residence stating that they though the elderly male was having a medical issue and struck a telephone pole while mowing the lawn.  She discovered that he was intoxicated and could barely stand up.  Tr. Levesque arrived and spoke to the male who said he drove the lawn mower over a mile down the road to mow a family members lawn.  He did one pass and struck the telephone pole.  Tr. Levesque performed field sobriety and determined the male was intoxicated and had just operated his lawn mower on the public way. Tr. Levesque arrested the male and he was charged with OUI.

    Brief Synopsis:  A male subject called HRCC to report that he had crashed his vehicle in Linneus. Tr. Cotton arrived on scene to investigate the crash. Tr. Cotton determined that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The male was checked over by the Houlton ambulance and transported to Aroostook County Jail where he was charged with OUI.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Bell observed a male driving on the Ludlow Road in Ludlow.  The male was known to have a suspended driver’s license, and his vehicle registration was known to be suspended.  The male was stopped and summonsed for operating after suspension and operating with suspended registration.  The vehicle was towed.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins conducted a random bail check on a man that had conditions of release.  The man had a curfew of 2100 hours and was to not use alcohol and/or illegal drugs.  When Tr. Kilcollins arrived at the man’s home he was not there; it was after 2100 hours.  Eventually the man arrived and Tr. Kilcollins conducted a urine test.  The man tested positive for methamphetamines and was transported to the Aroostook County Jail without incident.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement when he came across a large marijuana plant in the roadway.  It appeared someone was transporting the plant when it fell into the roadway.  Tr. Desrosier removed and discarded the plant.

    Brief Synopsis:       Det. Duff investigated a motor vehicle theft from Katahdin Forest Products in Oakfield.  The vehicle was discovered abandoned by a man on the Duck Pond Road in Smyrna.  Det. Duff recovered the vehicle and is working to identify any evidence of value in the vehicle for his investigation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Det. Duff responded to a crash on Interstate 95, south, in Smyrna.  A man was driving his 1989 Chevrolet Camaro, with his family, when the steering wheel came off.  The vehicle drifted to the left, went off the roadway, and crashed into some trees in the median.  No one was seriously injured in the crash.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Levesque and the Aroostook County Sheriffs’ Office responded to 28 Benjamin Street for a report of a female inside a house.  The homeowners were on vacation and they were watching their daughter inside their house on their surveillance system.  Their daughter was told that she cannot be at the house by the homeowner.  Tr. Levesque and the Sheriff’s Office located the female and arrested her for Criminal Trespass and Violation of Conditions of Release.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Casavant assisted the Houlton Police Department with the recovery of a stolen trailer. HPD requested Tr. Casavant check a residence in Easton for a male suspected of renting a utility trailer at the Tractor Supply in Houlton, and never returning it. Tr. Casavant was unable to locate the male at the residence but did find the stolen trailer. After consulting with HPD, the trailer was seized and towed to the Tractor Supply in Presque Isle. 

  • Lebanon Man arrested on Various Charges

    Dominic Romero, 55, of Lebanon

    Maine State Police arrested a Lebanon Man on number of charges after domestic incident.

    On October 19, 2019, Maine State Police out of Troop A responded to a residence on Smith Road, in Lebanon for a reported domestic violence assault. After Troopers arrived, they met with Dominic Romero, 55, of Lebanon, who was intoxicated and yelling obscenities. While speaking with Troopers, Romero exposed himself twice to a Trooper in front of the residence.

    Troopers arrested Romero and continued their investigation. Troopers learned that Romero had been drinking since 3:00 am and had been destroying property inside of the house. Romero had burned a family member's property in the driveway. Romero also flushed another family member's prescription medication down the toilet. When confronted about the property destruction, Romero assaulted a member of his family.

    As a result, Romero was charged with Arson, Criminal Mischief, Indecent Conduct, Stealing Drugs, Disorderly Conduct, and Domestic Violence Assault. Bail was set at $15,000 on the charges. Romero is expected to appear at Springvale District Court on Monday at 1 p.m.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting proactive enforcement in Wallagrass and located a man with an active arrest warrant.  The warrant was for failing to appear in court on a Title 12 violation.  Tr. Desrosier arrested the man without incident and arranged for him to post bail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement on US Highway 1, Frenchville.  He observed a vehicle speeding and determined it was criminal speed.  Tr. Desrosier stopped the vehicle and the driver had no justification for his speed.  Tr. Desrosier issued the man a criminal summons for the violation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins is investigating the theft of a fifth wheel motor home from E Township.  The victim reported the camper was parked near the end of the E Plantation Road and someone has towed it without permission.  Tr. Kilcollins was parked in Bridgewater before receiving this complaint and was able to locate the camper and pickup involved in the theft.  Tr. Kilcollins tracked the camper to an address in Monticello.  The incident is still under investigation due to the property owner not being sure if he wants to file for criminal charges.  Tr. Kilcollins suspects this may be a civil issue.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was getting gas in Mars Hill when the clerk came outside stating a woman, who was walking south, just stole items from the store.  Tr. Kilcollins located the woman in Blaine, found some items on her person, and issued her a criminal summons for theft.  The woman was also given a warning for trespassing and told not to return to the store again.

    Brief Synopsis:       In late September, Tr. Curtin took a report from a resident in Allagash that a firearm had been stolen from her home.  The firearm owner had not initially been aware her gun had been stolen until a friend had made her aware of it.  Tr. Curtin developed two suspects over the next few weeks and on 10/20/19 arrested two men in connection with the theft of the firearm.  One of the men was charged with receiving stolen property, while the other was charged with a prohibited person possessing a firearm and theft of the firearm.  They are scheduled for a December court date in Fort Kent District Court.

    Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on School Street in Ellsworth, as a result of the investigation, Janelle Greenleaf (41) of Hancock was summonsed for Unlawful Possession of schedule W drug.

    Trooper Jeffrey Taylor summonsed Iris Simmonds (24) of Franklin for Criminal Mischief and Failure to Report a Crash as result from an investigation stemming from several weeks-ago.

    Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Acadia Highway in Orland, as a result of the investigation, James Williams (57) of Bucksport was summonsed for Operating without a driver’s license.

    While investigating a burglary in Tremont, Trooper Endre located Donald Murphy (63) of Tremont while he was driving a vehicle. Murphy’s driving status is currently revoked. Trooper Endre arrested Murphy for Operating after Revocation Class-C, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle Class-E as well as Civil Vehicle Infractions.

    Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Acadia Highway in Orland, as a result of the investigation, Dustin Powers (25) of Verona Island was arrested for Operating under the Influence and Exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 miles per hour or more.

     

  • Troop G Weekly Report

    Tpr. Darcy charged Lateef Simmons (38) of Brooklyn, NY with Operating without a License as the result of a traffic stop northbound on the turnpike in York.  The vehicle’s registration was also suspended for title issues.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Tpr. Darcy charged Ruth Moats (43) of Scarborough with Operating after Suspension as the result of a traffic stop northbound on the turnpike in Wells.

    Cocaine
    127 grams of cocaine located during a traffic stop in York.

    Tpr. Darcy arrested Bryce Lebel (21) and Kareem Smith (34), both of Lewiston, for Aggravated Trafficking Schedule W Drugs as the result of a stop northbound on the turnpike in York.  Criminal indicators were observed and Tpr. Duda and K9 Mack were called to the scene to conduct a sniff.  K9 Mack alerted, and a search was conducted.  As a result, 127 grams of cocaine was located.  Both subjects were taken to YCJ and bail was set at $3,000 for Lebel and $10,000 for Smith.  Troopers Williams and Wilkinson assisted.  

    Tpr. Darcy arrested Nicholas Wood (33) of Steep Falls for Violation of Conditions of Release as the result of a traffic stop southbound on the turnpike in Portland.  Nicholas was with the protected party on his bail conditions.  The vehicle’s registration was suspended.  The registered owner left the vehicle parked in a parking lot and dealt with that issue. 

    Tpr. Physic arrested Sam Richardson (26) for OUI on the turnpike in Kennebunk.  Tpr. Welch assisted.

    On 10-16-19 Tpr. Hager investigated an evasion of fare (tolls) complaint at Exit 32 in Biddeford.  Tpr. Hager stopped Donald Leeman (29) at mile 33 northbound in Saco and subsequently determined that Leeman’s registration was under suspension for tolls.  Tpr. Hager also determined that Leeman’s license status was under suspension for Failure to File Insurance.  Leeman was issued criminal summonses for Evasion of Fare (tolls), Operating with Suspended Registration (tolls) and Operating After Suspension.  

    On 10-14-19 Tpr. Loder stopped a silver BMW for speeding northbound in Biddeford.  The operator, Mickiel Charles James (31) was suspended and out on bail for drug trafficking with search conditions.  Upon completion of a vehicle search, James was charged with OAS & VCR, and issued a citation for speeding.  Troopers Duda & Williams assisted.

    On 10-20-19 Tpr. Williams arrested Alanna MacDonald (55) of Goffstown, NH for OUI.  Several traffic complaints came in northbound on the vehicle and Troopers Duda and Loder set up for the vehicle.  At one point, unbeknownst to Troopers, MacDonald took a crossover and drove back southbound.  As calls began to come in southbound, a motorist attempted to block MacDonald’s lane of travel through the York toll.  MacDonald attempted to drive around the motorist but crashed into a tractor trailer after driving over a lane divider at the York toll.  MacDonald refused a test of her breath and was charged with OUI – Refusal.  Troopers Duda and Loder handled the crash scene and investigation at the toll plaza. 

    On 10-16-19 Cpl. Coted stopped Christopher Iooss for OAS on I-95 at mile 41 South.

    On 10-19-19 Tpr. Duda conducted a traffic stop northbound near mile marker 16.  The operator, Jessica Pearl (35) of Burlington CT, was arrested on an active warrant for theft of out of Penobscot County. 

    On 10-20-19 Tpr. Keim followed a vehicle that was floating from the median fog line to the dividing line several times and not moving into the middle lane after being passed by 2 vehicles on the right.  Tpr. Keim then moved alongside the vehicle and watched as the driver kept looking down toward their lap.  Tpr. Keim stopped the vehicle driven by an Ashley Bouffard (31) of Old Orchard Beach.  Tpr. Keim noticed that there was a cell phone in Bouffard’s lap.  She was asked why she was looking at her phone and Bouffard said she always keeps it there.  Bouffard could not produce any documents that were requested.  Tpr. Keim ran a license check on Bouffard and obtained information that she had 3 outstanding operating after suspensions on her license.   Bouffard was charged with failing to keep right expect to pass and operating after suspension.

    On 10-19-19 Tpr. Keim received a call from Sgt. Porter that a Deondre Johnson (26) of Lewiston, was on a Greyhound bus and was trying to leave the state.  Sgt. Porter had information that Johnson had outstanding warrants for DV Assault and Probation violations.  Lt. Baker and Tpr. Keim located the bus in the Wells Transportation Center and Johnson was taken into custody without incident.

    On 10-19-19 at SP Gray advised that there was a crash at Exit 36 northbound entering ramp in Saco.  The complainant reported that the vehicle exited at Exit 45 in South Portland.  After responding to the scene and observing the remnants of a crashed vehicle, Cpl. Cloutier took photographs of the scene and then responded to the methadone clinic in South Portland where Cpl. Cloutier suspected the vehicle was located.  At the methadone clinic, the heavily damaged vehicle was located.  Thomas Verow, the registered owner, exited the clinic and admitted to being involved in the crash.  Verow was arrested for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damaged Crash, Driving to Endanger and Violation of Conditional Release.  Verow was transported to the York County Jail.
    Tpr. Welch arrested Taylor J. Hartley (23) of Westbrook for Operating with Suspended Registration (Toll Evasion) at mile 34 northbound in Saco.
