Ogunquit, Maine (May 19, 2015): The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) began a $13.5 million dollar project to reconstruct Route 1 in Ogunquit and build two new bridges over the Ogunquit and Josias Rivers in early March 2015. Due to the heavy tourism economy of the area, road construction will be suspended during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, and again from June 21st through Labor Day. Though work on the two new bridges will continue, temporary bridges will be sure to keep traffic moving.

Auburn ? Crews will be replacing parts of the Auburn-Oakdale Bridge on Route 202 in Auburn beginning on Wednesday, May 20th.

As the bridge deck and beams are being replaced to make for a wider structure, motorists will encounter a change in the traffic pattern.

Traffic heading south on Washington Street out of Auburn will be detoured over Washington Street northbound at Philomar Street and routed back to Washington Street southbound by way of Chasse Street. Slight delays are expected.

Businesses in the vicinity of the bridge will remain open and accessible.

A diesel spill has forced the closure of the Exit 6B off-ramp on I-295 in Portland.

Portland Public Works has laid down sand and DEP will be doing the cleanup.

It is anticipated Exit 6B will be closed for two hours.

Motorists should expect delays and aviod the area if possible.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces a continuation of the six month interim structural inspection at the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Portsmouth is scheduled to begin Monday, June 1, 2015 and continue through Friday, June 5, 2015 and Monday, June 8, 2015 if needed.

This bridge carries the US Route 1 Bypass over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.

The Long Bridge will have lane closures as needed, and as weather permits, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm daily for up to six days.

Richmond ? Due to a culvert failure, an emergency closure of one lane on I-295 northbound will begin today, Thursday May 28th at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The culvert is located at mile 46 northbound on I-295. The lane closure will be approximately 1500ft in length.

It is anticipated the closure will be in place for approximately three weeks as crews work to repair this culvert end failure.

Updates will be provided as events warrant.

Caribou ? Crews will be fully reconstructing a portion of Route 161 just north of the Caribou/Fairfield town line beginning on Monday, June 1st.

The project begins 0.81 of a mile north of the Caribou/Fairfield town line and extends northwesterly for 4.01 miles to the Aroostook River Bridge.

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers with restricted 11ft. lanes within the work zones. Motorists should expect slight delays while work is being performed Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Augusta ? Beginning this week, (6/1) crews will perform an LCP (Light Capital Paving) operation through the towns of Rumford, Andover, Bethel, Mexico, Newry, Norway, Roxbury and West Paris.

There will be one lane of alternating traffic through the work zones controlled by flaggers. Motorists should expect slight delays.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by the end of June, 2015.

Pike Industries, Inc. will perform this $1.1 million project.

Rumford:

Richmond ? Due to the failure of a culvert under the northbound lanes of I-295 in Richmond, MaineDOT is temporarily closing a section of the northbound lanes of I-295 beginning at noon on Sunday June 7th and reopening by the morning commute on Wednesday, June 10th.

Northbound motorists will exit I-295 at the Richmond Exit 43 and will be detoured along Routes 197, 138 and 201 and then back on I-295 in Gardiner at Exit 49.

Richmond ? The northbound lanes on I-295 in Richmond will reopen in time for the morning commute on Tuesday, June 9th.

The northbound lanes have been closed since noon on Sunday, June 7th for an emergency culvert repair. Crews worked diligently during long hours without traffic on the highway which helped to facilitate the early completion of this project.

Portland ? Crews have started improvement work on sidewalks and curbs on Commercial and Franklin Streets in Portland.

While the impact to vehicular traffic is minimal, pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to use caution in the area. This work will continue for most of this season, with paving scheduled for 2016.

In mid-July of this year, crews will be doing similar work in the area of High and York Streets.
