Emergency Culvert Repairs in Pittston Finished Ahead of Schedule

Pittston ? Emergency culvert repairs on Route 27 in Pittston have been completed 27 hours ahead of schedule. Crews will have the road open to all traffic by mid-day today.

The detour began at the intersection of Route 27 and Route 194 and ended at the intersection of Route 27 and the Kelley Road in Pittston. Alternating one-way traffic only was allowed through the area.

The contractor, Sargent, Corp. along with crews from MaineDOT, worked 24 hours a day to replace the culvert and open the road to all traffic ahead of schedule.

Sarah Mildred Long Bridge To Close For Safety Repairs

Kittery ? The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge connecting Kittery, ME and Portsmouth, NH, will be closing nightly for safety repairs starting the night of July 5th, with completion slated for August 1st. Crews will be installing prefabricated steel barriers as a supplemental safety measure due to the corroded guardrail along the length of the bridge. The center lift span will have a temporary guardrail installed that will be mounted on steel posts.

Detour signs and message boards will guide motorists on either end of the bridge to the alternate routes.

Ferry Service Interruptions

Islesboro ? Ferry service from Lincolnville to Islesboro will not be operating today due to mechanical issues at the transfer bridge. The result is reduced service out of Rockland until possibly the end of the week.

Adjusted departure times are as follows:

  • Islesboro: - 7:30am

    • 10:30am

    • 1:30pm

    • 4:30pm

  • Rockland:

    • 9:00am

    • 12:00pm

    • 3:00pm

    • 6:00pm

MaineDOT Starts Annual Roadside Brush-Control Program

MaineDOT will begin its annual brush control program along Maine?s highways starting as soon as Monday, July 9th. Four regions in the state will conduct brush control spraying on selected state roads in their regions. Robert Moosmann from MaineDOT?s Maintenance and Operations Division says, ?We are targeting young trees, hardwoods six feet or smaller and softwoods three feet or smaller to control them before they become a problem.? Trees left to grow, quickly reduce visibility obscuring signs, traffic signals, and other structures.

Traffic Sensors To Be Installed In Augusta And Winthrop

Winthrop ? On Monday, July 9th, traffic sensors will be installed in the roadway 1,000ft east of the intersection with Welch Point Road in Winthrop, extending westerly for 1,000ft. All of this work will be located on Welch Point Road with flaggers assisting motorists through alternating one-way traffic. This one day project will take place from 9am to 3pm. A rain date is set for Tuesday, July 10th.

Cross Pipe Replacement in Levant

Levant ? Due to deterioration, crews will be replacing a cross pipe on Wing Road in the town of Levant starting on Monday, July 9th through Wednesday, July 11th. The work zone is approximately 500ft from the intersection of Route 222, (Union Street) and approximately five miles from the Fuller and Wing Road intersection in Hermon.

Work will be done from 6am until 4:30pm each day with detour signs guiding motorists through the area.

I-95 Paving Work To Begin July 8th

Waterville ? A paving project will begin on Sunday evening, July 8th on Interstate 95 northbound starting at the Webb Road Bridge in Waterville (mile marker 125) and extend north to Pittsfield. (mile marker 147)

This night work will start on Sunday evening at 7pm, lasting through Friday mornings at 7am. This will include ramp closures for the overnight.

Road Work On Route 1A In Hampden

Hampden ? Full reconstruction of Route 1A, North Main Street in Hampden, is underway until the end of November. This project begins 250 ft south of Mount View Drive and extends northerly for approximately one mile.

Flaggers are assisting motorists through alternating one-way traffic during the times of operation from 6:30am to 6pm.

Full closure of this stretch of road for seven days will be needed as crews install a replacement culvert in early September. A separate release will be sent to alert residents and businesses when an exact date has been identified.
