ANDROSCOGGIN AND SAGADAHOC COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing pavement preservation work and making safety improvements on Route 196 in Topsham, Lisbon, and Lewiston. Work is scheduled to begin on May 5th. The total project area stretches about 12.5 miles. It begins east of Birch Ridge Avenue in Topsham and ends near Drew Street in Lewiston. We will be doing paving work in addition to making drainage and sidewalk improvements. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures, but we will be maintaining two-way traffic between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

BATH - The Maine Department of Transportation's ongoing paving and safety improvements work on Route 1 from Brunswick to the Sagadahoc Bridge will involve new traffic restrictions in Bath on Wednesday, May 6th.

Drivers may encounter traffic stops at the State Street on-ramp to Route 1 northbound in Bath for up to five minutes while crews pave the on-ramp area. Local traffic may use city side roads. Once the paving operation has passed, the ramp will have a stop sign for traffic.

KITTERY - Paving work on the Piscataqua River (I-95) Bridge will require additional daytime lane closures this week.

PORTLAND - The Maine Department of Transportation is planning more daytime construction work on I-295 in Portland. We are doing this because traffic volumes have remained low during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is performing safety improvements on I-295 between Falmouth and Yarmouth as well as on the Falmouth Spur (I-495).

BLUE HILL - The Maine Department of Transportation will be conducting geotechnical borings near the Falls Bridge in Blue Hill between Monday, May 18th and Friday, May 22nd. The Falls Bridge carries Route 175 (Falls Bridge Road). We will need to close the bridge to traffic in order to conduct the borings. Route 175 traffic will be detoured to Route 172. This detour will be in place between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This work is needed as part of the final design for the replacement of the Falls Bridge. The Department may have to conduct more geotechnical borings later this summer.

KINGFIELD - The Maine Department of Transportation is making improvements to the sidewalks of Routes 27 and 142 in Kingfield. Our work area starts near the elementary school driveway and extends north a little bit more than a half-mile to High Street. We are making these improvements to increase pedestrian safety near the school. During construction, drivers should expect an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern. We expect to finish this work by the end of August. The contractor for this project is Ranger Contracting of Winslow. The contract amount is $711,748.

HOULTON - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing Pearce Brook Bridge in Houlton. The bridge carries Green Street over Pearce Brook between Court Street and Chandler Street. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 26th. Green Street will be closed to traffic from May 26th to November 13th. We expect this bridge replacement project to be finished in June 2021. The contractor on this work is Northeast Paving of Hampden.

WATERVILLE - The Maine Department of Transportation will be rebuilding Trafton Road in Waterville. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 18th and end in early July. We are rebuilding this road so it can better handle traffic from the new interstate exit. Our work involves other improvements like tree clearing to help increase visibility. The project area begins at the interstate exit ramps and continues east for 1.25 miles to the intersection of Route 104. Drivers should expect a single-lane traffic pattern, controlled by flaggers.

WISCASSET - The Maine Department of Transportation will be working on traffic count sensors on Route 1 (Bath Road) in Wiscasset tomorrow (Wednesday, May 13th). These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately count the number of vehicles that use this highway throughout the year. Our work area will be on Route 1 southwest of Ward Brook. We plan to begin at 9:00 a.m., and we expect it will take our crews about five hours to complete work on both the northbound and southbound sides. This work will involve lane closures. Like all outdoor work, this work is weather-dependent.
