Requirements

  • Number of credits required - As a condition of continued licensure, all Maine resident producers and consultants are required to complete 24 credit hours of continuing education including a minimum of 3 credit hours in ethics, to be due every 2 years based on the birth month and year.
  • Calculation of biennial due date - Rule 542 establishes a biennial compliance date for each licensee based upon their month and year of birth. An individual can determine their due date for continuing education by referencing first their birth month, and then, whether they were born in an "odd" or "even" year. The due date will then be the end of the birth month, every odd or even year.
  • Compliance Date for New Licensees - For resident producers and consultants who first become licensed, a minimum of one year must to be given for the first biennium. Therefore the first continuing education requirement date may be less than 2 years based upon the date of first licensure. For individuals whose compliance date falls less than one year from the original license issuance, the continuing education requirement will be moved to the next compliance period. After the first compliance period, the requirement date will be every 2 years.
