Health Benefit Changes Starting July 1, 2017
  • Changes for the new plan year
  • Premium Rates Effective July 1, 2017
  • The dental and vision premiums, coverage and carrier will remain the same
  • The State of Maine health plan for active employees and non-Medicare retirees will have a premium increase of approximately 3% for both the employee and the employer.  The coverage changes are as follows:
    • Specialist office visit copay*: Increase from $30 to $40. *Copays are waived for preventive visits. 
    • No changes will be made to the following services: office visit copays for primary care doctor, walk-in clinic, emergency room, deductible amounts, coinsurance rates and out-of-pocket maximums.
    • Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will be the new administrator of the State of Maine Health Plan. ID cards will be issued before July 1st. 
    • Express Scripts will be the new pharmacy benefit manager of the State of Maine Health Plan. Express Scripts will also issue ID cards before July 1st.
    • Specialty medications will be 25% coinsurance (max $150 for a 1-31 days' supply)
    • Copay amounts for medication categories (generic, preferred, non-preferred and lifestyle medications) will remain the same. Note, the formulary will be updated for July 1st.
