About Camp North Woods

Camp North Woods is an overnight camp for youth to learn lifelong outdoor skills as well as the importance of sustaining Maine's natural resources. Maine Game Wardens join campers to show how these outdoor skills relate to their work protecting Maine's wildlife, fish, and other natural resources.

Camp North Woods is hosted by the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond. Campers receive instruction from and are mentored by staff from Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and wildlife and staff from Bryant Pond. The week is filled with hands-on experiences in riflery, archery, map and compass, wilderness survival, canoe or kayak, ATV safety*, firearms education*, open water fishing, and more!

*Throughout the week, campers will complete an ATV safety course with hands on riding, and hunter safety course. Upon successful completion, they will earn their ATV and firearms hunter safety certifications during their week at camp. Please note: Campers attending prior to 2023 did not complete the firearms hunter safety course.

Camp North Woods 2024

Winners of the 2024 lottery will attend camp Sunday, July 28 - Friday, August 2, 2024.

Camp North Woods Lottery

Because there are a limited number of spaces at camp North Woods, campers are selected through a chance lottery held each spring. The 2024 lottery will be open from mid-January until March 1, 2024. Winners will be selected on March 15, 2024. Due to the popularity of Camp North Woods there is only ONE entry per child.

The registration fee for the winners selected in the lottery process will be $675 for both Maine residents and non-residents and includes all meals, lodging, and instruction for the week. 96 campers (48 girls and 48 boys) will be selected in the chance lottery. ALL entries will be contacted via email regarding lottery results. Camp is co-ed and will be separated out by younger and older age groups.

All Maine resident campers selected in the lottery (who have not received a conservation scholarship in the past) will receive a scholarship in the amount of $400 from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife reducing the registration fee to $275 for the week.

For Camp North Woods 2024, eligible campers MUST be 10 years old before July 28, 2024 and no older than 14 years old by August 2, 2024.

Individuals not selected in the lottery process will automatically go onto an alternate list and will be contacted if the use of alternates is necessary.

Note: If you have attended Camp North Woods during ANY OTHER year you cannot apply for the lottery!
