Kittery - Traffic Signal Upgrades and ADA Improvements, Public Meeting, Online

MaineDOT will have an on-demand presentation available for this Formal Public Meeting. This meeting will give information about the proposed project, including a PowerPoint presentation, and other pertinent information to help the public understand the project. These on-demand meetings allow for convenient viewing at any time. The meeting also provides the ability for online comments and questions that will be answered by MaineDOT staff.

The MaineDOT Work Plan

Calendar Years 2026-2027-2028

The MaineDOT Work Plan outlines the work that the department plans to perform over the next three years. The Work Plan is calendar year-based and includes all MaineDOT work activities. Projects and activities listed for Calendar Year 2026 have the most definite schedules and estimates, while those for Calendar Years 2027 and 2028 may be more subject to change.

May 2024

In May CPM completed the Pier pedestals, completed Abutment 1 and 2, set steel girders from Abutment 1 to the Pier. Shaw Brothers installed underdrain and catch basins, installed stone ditch protection along the South Bound on ramp slopes and loamed and seeded slopes.

Ticonic Bridge Schedule

  • March 2023 Begin Construction
  • Late-August/early September 2023 Detour Westbound Traffic over Carter Memorial Bridge while Eastbound stays on the Existing Bridge
  • Early September 2023 Detour pedestrians to 2 Cent Bridge
  • November 2024 Detour Eastbound and Westbound Traffic over Carter Memorial Bridge (full bridge closure, no traffic EB or WB on Ticonic Bridge)
  • April 2025 go back to Eastbound Traffic and Pedestrians on Ticonic bridge while Westbound Traffic remains detoured over Carter Memorial Bridge
  • September 2026 Open both Eastbound an

History of the Ticonic Bridge

The 113-year-old Ticonic Bridge is scheduled to be replaced as part of a $52.8 million construction project, $25 million of which will be provided as a grant by the Federal Highway Administration. It will be undertaken to address significant deterioration of the structure and will provide a new and modern structure that will serve the community for the next 100 years.

Freeport Bridge Project

MaineDOT will be conducting work on I-295 exits 20 and 22 in Freeport. This work includes a complete reconstruction of the Desert Road and Mallet Drive bridges over 1-295. The traveling public should take caution when utilizing these on and off ramps and drive safely and slowly through construction zones.
