Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expanding Maine’s Universal Immunization Program

Beginning July 1, 2026, Maine CDC’s Maine Immunization Program (MIP) is expanding the Universal Immunization Program to include adults ages 19-64. For MaineCare providers, this means that after July 1 you may:

  • Order state-supplied vaccine for adults ages 19-64 who have MaineCare coverage through MIP at no cost to the provider;
  • Submit claims to MaineCare for reimbursement for vaccines not supplied by Maine CDC during this transition.

Please refer to Maine CDC’s recent message and webpage for more details about the implementation of this program expansion, including how to manage existing privately purchased vaccine inventory.

If you do not yet participate in the MIP, you are strongly urged to do so. Due to this expansion, MaineCare expects to stop reimbursing most providers for vaccines that can be ordered at no cost to the provider through the Maine Immunization Program in state fiscal year 2028. We will share more information about this change when we have it. If you need enrollment assistance, program staff can guide you through the process. Please contact ImmunizeME.DHHS@maine.gov. To support providers during the transition, MIP will host Expanded Immunization Program Office Hours every other Thursday at 12:00 pm, beginning June 25. The next few dates are:

  • July 9
  • July 24
  • August 6

Office Hours provide an opportunity to learn about program updates and ask questions about the transition.
