Introduction to Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a grant administered by the United States Department of Labor that provides work-training opportunities for low income persons aged 55 or older. The Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS) administers this grant in the following counties (shown in blue):

  • Cumberland
  • Lincoln

Associates for Training and Development (A4TD) administers this grant in the following counties (showSCSEP Mapn in yellow):

  • Androscoggin
  • Aroostook
  • Franklin
  • Kennebec
  • Knox
  • Lincoln
  • Oxford
  • Penobscot
  • Piscataquis
  • Sagadahoc
  • Somerset
  • Waldo
  • Washington

 

Both OADS and A4TD administer this grant is York County (shown in green). If you reside in York County, please contact either agency to be directed to the appropriate person.

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible for SCSEP, you must be 55 or older, unemployed, looking for work, and have a household income at or below 125% of the federal poverty level. If you are unsure whether you meet these criteria, please reach out to your SCSEP representative at the Office of Aging and Disability Services or A4TD.

How do I Participate in SCSEP in Cumberland, Lincoln, or York Counties?

Step 1: Complete Application of Eligibility and submit to SCSEP.OADS@maine.gov.

            If you need assistance completing this application, please contact the SCSEP Coordinator at (207) 287-9200 or email at SCSEP.OADS@maine.gov.

Step 2: If you meet eligibility criteria, an interview will be scheduled with your SCSEP representative to discuss your situation and how we can best assist you.

Step 3: Your SCSEP representative will work with you to develop an Individual Employment Plan that identifies your training goals.

Step 4: Placement with a host organization for work-training that matches your employment objectives.
