Route 1 Bridge Work in Freeport

FREEPORT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing geotechnical borings at the Railroad Crossing Bridge in Freeport on Wednesday, April 29th and Thursday, April 30th. The Railroad Crossing Bridge carries Route 1 over Maine Central Railroad. Our work area will be just south of Summer Street and the Freeport Fire Station and just north of L.L. Bean's factory. This work will require us to close the northbound side of Route 1 between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. Drivers should expect an alternating, one-way traffic pattern controlled by flaggers or police officers. Geotechnical explorations will assist the department in its review of preliminary design options for the 84-year-old bridge.
