AUGUSTA - New rates for the Maine State Ferry Service will take effect on October 1st. The rulemaking process was officially completed on September 19th. That months-long process involved public hearings, conversations with community members, and island visits by Maine Department of Transportation staff.
"We feel this new rate structure strikes a reasonable balance considering all of the various and sometimes competing concerns we heard from those who rely on the Maine State Ferry Service," said MaineDOT Commissioner Bruce Van Note. I want to thank everyone involved particularly the members of the island communities for their engagement, thoughtfulness, and hospitality throughout this process.
