MaineDOT to Work on Route 1A in Brewer and Holden
Drivers should plan for delays.
BREWER/HOLDEN – September 25, 2026 — Starting September 28, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will be performing work from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Route 1A for a highway preservation paving project with drainage and safety improvements. This daytime work is in addition to the night work that started on August 2.
The project location begins 0.24 of a mile northwest of the Holden town line and extends southeast 2.79 miles. Project work during the day will continue until October 2 and night work will end on October 23.
The project work includes the center turn lane and left and right travel lane surface paving starting at the railroad overpass located adjacent to I-395 & the Route 9 Connector and extending easterly approximately 1.7 miles to the east of Copeland Hill Road. Crews will be paving in one of the three lanes at a time while utilizing the other two lanes to maintain two-way traffic at all times.
Drivers should expect to encounter traffic delays. Drivers should seek alternate routes. Drivers that must travel this route need to pay attention when passing through the work zone.
The contractor for this project is Eurovia Atlantic Coast/Northeast Construction of Bangor, Maine. The contract amount is $2,673,857.80.
