Machias Dike Bridge Reopened, Upgraded Interim Structure Nearly Complete
Paving scheduled for week of May 4 will reduce traffic to a single lane; paving should be complete by midweek.
AUGUSTA – April 29, 2026 – The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) reopened the Machias Dike closure on Route 1 Thursday afternoon, April 29. The project replaced the exiting temporary bridge with an upgraded interim structure. Two-way traffic has resumed on the bridge connecting Machias to East Machias. Final paving is scheduled for early in the week of May 4 and will require a temporary reduction to a single lane. Work is expected to be complete by midweek.
