Elimination of Mailing Paper Remittance Advice (RA) and Reduction of Paper Checks, CR 132320
Paper RAs
This fall, the Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) will eliminate the mailing of all paper RAs to providers. This is a cost-saving initiative for the Department. We encourage those who receive paper RAs to reference the electronic PDF versions posted on the Health PAS Online Portal. Advantages of using the PDF version include easier member and claim searching and access to previous RAs.
All providers with a trading partner account can access the electronic PDF version of the RA by logging into your account and going to File Exchange > Reports > Remittance Advice. We encourage you to download your PDF RAs and store them in your system as the Health PAS Online Portal only displays up to one year of RAs. At that point, each week the oldest is taken off when the newest is added.
Paper Checks
The Department is also minimizing mailing paper checks to providers. MaineCare policy states that payments are made by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), unless the provider is unable to accept payment in this manner. In those cases, the Office of the State Treasurer provides an alternative method of payment. If you currently receive paper checks and are able to receive electronic payments, please help us reduce costs. We will send another message with the exact date of this change when we have one.
