Volunteers are needed!

Volunteer opportunities through Friends of Maine Wildlife Park

  • Snack Shack Clerks assist guests with purchasing snacks from the Friends of Maine Wildlife Park snack shack.
  • Gardeners start in the greenhouse in March propagating seedlings and then transplant to gardens outdoors. Gardeners help water, weed, and fertilize gardens on the park’s grounds.

Volunteer opportunities through Maine Wildlife Park

  • Carpenters assist with creating signs, building exhibits and displays, working on picnic tables and benches, and other small projects around the park.

Unfortunately, volunteers cannot work directly with the wild animals due to insurance and liability issues, but if you volunteer regularly at the park, you certainly get to know more about the wildlife residing there.

If you are interested in volunteering at the park, please complete the volunteer application below and mail to: Maine Wildlife Park, 56 Game Farm Road, Gray, ME 04039. You will be contacted for an interview.

Corporate and Group Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for a meaningful way for your organization to give back? Corporate and community groups are invited to volunteer at Maine Wildlife Park and make a direct impact on both wildlife and the local community. Group volunteers play an important role in supporting park operations through projects such as groundskeeping, light maintenance, and other hands-on tasks that help keep the park welcoming and safe for our animals and visitors. Volunteer support is especially needed during our shoulder seasons—March through early May and again from September through November—when your team's time and effort can make a real difference. Group volunteer opportunities are during weekdays only, we like to schedule at least 2 weeks in advance, and must have a time commitment of at least 3 hours. Half days are typically 9am-12pm, full days are 9am-3pm with a one hour break at noon for volunteers to tour the park and grab lunch. Volunteering at the park offers a rewarding team-building experience while supporting wildlife conservation and education.

Interested groups should email Assistant Park Superintendant Ben Barrett at ben.barrett@maine.gov with the name of the organization and an estimate of number of volunteers.
