Information for System Designers

Site Evaluators

The Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules have requried that septic systems serving less than 2,000 gallons per day be designed by licensed Site Evaluators since July of 1974. Site evaluation combines soil examination with review of site conditions. Site Evaluators are required to properly identify and accurately report soil textures and limiting factors so they can adequately classify soils, recognize site limitations and properly size disposal systems.

Professional Engineers

Septic systems that are designed to serve 2,000 or more gallons per day or wastewater with a combined five day Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Total Suspended Solids of more than 1,400 mg/l are by definition engineered systems. All engineered systems must be designed by a licensed Professional Engineer.
