Trenton ? Friday, May 4th marked the grand opening of the Acadia Gateway Center administrative and maintenance facility in Trenton. This transit facility will ease congestion and improve transportation at Acadia National Park, as well as Mount Desert Island, by housing and maintaining the Island Explorer buses. More than thirty of these buses are propane powered, allowing residents and tourists to park their personal vehicles and enjoy the free shuttle service in an environmentally friendly way.

Augusta ? Work has begun on the Augusta Memorial Bridge that spans the Kennebec River. Work includes re-painting and minor steel repair. This necessary re-painting will help prevent further rusting and to maintain the integrity of the structure. The work is expected to continue through November, with little to no traffic impacts.

Maine homeowners aren't the only ones doing some re-painting now that warmer weather is here. The Maine Department of Transportation has begun the job of re-painting the centerlines, edge lines and other pavement markings statewide and wants drivers to use extra care around their pavement marking vehicles and crews.

Augusta ? Road crews are currently working on I-95 southbound, from Exit 179 to Exit 161, in the vicinity of Hampden and Plymouth. Work will continue through September and will include drainage pipe installation, paving, as well as tree and brush removal. Traffic is reduced to one lane while crews are working between 7am and 7pm. Two-way traffic will resume between 7pm and 7am.

SOUTH PORTLAND ? Due to construction of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 to 6 a.m. the next day. This necessary closure will allow construction crews to safely install drainage pipe across the existing bridge.

Detour signs will be posted to alert drivers of alternate routes. Please plan ahead and allow more time to get to your destination. MaineDOT regrets any inconvenience caused by this necessary closure.

Farmingdale, ME ? The reconstruction of Route 201 in the town of Farmingdale is in the final stages of construction, according to the general contractor completing the project. John Sturgeon, Senior Project Manager for Sargent Corporation stated, "We are continuing our efforts to accelerate the project for final completion by June 30th with the least possible daytime disruption to the local businesses and the traveling public".

Naples ? Crews will be paving Route 302 in Naples from the Causeway to the fire station, approximately one-half mile in length, on Thursday, May 17th from 7am to 6pm. While traffic delays are expected, flaggers will assist motorists with the alternating one-way traffic through the period.

This is a continuation of the roadway improvements in the area.

Boothbay ? Crews will be installing traffic counting sensors in the pavement in Boothbay on Monday, May 21st, and Tuesday, May 22nd. (Rain date is Thursday, May 24th) The installation will be on Route 27, approximately 50 feet north of the intersection of the River Road, extending southerly for 500 feet.

Due to alternating one-way traffic through the work zone, flaggers will assist motorists from 9am to 3pm while the work is being conducted.

Bradford ? Work crews will be replacing existing drainage culverts in the town of Bradford from May 21st through the 25th from Stores Corner to the Jones Road. There will be a full road closure until the project is completed, with detour signs guiding motorists away from the work zone.

The project begins a half mile south of Stores Corner on Route 155, with traffic closed off on each side. Variable message signs are currently alerting drivers, and will remain active through the period. The detour routes are as follows:

Kittery ? Crews will be replacing overhead guide signs on I-95 at Exit 1 on Thursday, May 17th starting at 8:00pm until after midnight. Exit 1 will be closed until the work, which involves two overhead signs, is completed.

Message signs will alert motorists to the closure, allowing for alternative routes.
