Sarah Mildred Long Bridge Closed for Repairs

Kittery ? The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Kittery is undergoing repairs necessitating its closure on Thursday, January 24th and possibly Friday, January 25th.

After bridge controllers attempted to raise the lift span on Wednesday afternoon, a section did not align properly and therefore would not fully close.

Crews will be on the bridge through the day today with the possible repairs continuing into tomorrow.

Temporary Off-Ramp Closing at Exit 15 Northbound Starting In March

YARMOUTH. The Maine Department of Transportation unveiled plans today for multi-faceted highway improvement project that will have mapmakers redrawing the Exit 15 interchange for Interstate 295 and U.S. Route 1.

The Yarmouth project will provide new access to I-295 northbound from Route 1 and improve safety at the Exit 15 interchange by modifying and improving the existing ramp configurations. A new Park & Ride Commuter Lot will also be constructed as part of the project.

Woolwich Bridge Rehabilitation Begins This Month

Woolwich ? MaineDOT is rehabilitating the Station 46 Bridge that spans the Mane Eastern Rail tracks in Woolwich starting this month. While this effort will continue until mid-August, traffic impacts will end by mid-June when crews start repairing the underside of the bridge. Though most of the work will take place during the day, two 10 ft. 6 inch lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times. Wide loads will be prohibited while construction is under way.

The contract for this bridge rehabilitation has been awarded to Wyman and Simpson, Inc. of Richmond for $1.17 million.

Bridge Rehabilitation in Abbot

Abbot ? Rehabilitation work is underway on the Page-Carr Bridge in Abbot at the Routes 6 & 15 intersection. This work includes installing a new concrete deck and wearing surface, and replacing the bearings and bridge joints. In addition, scour measures are being put into place for the piers and abutments.

Traffic will be maintained using flaggers with one lane of alternating two-way traffic. Jersey barriers will be installed and temporary traffic lights will assist motorists.

Brownfield Bridge Closed for Repairs

Brownfield ? MaineDOT crews are working on the Merrills Corner Bridge on Old County Road in Brownfield. This bridge, spanning the Shepards River, is closed until Friday, March 15th.

Work includes repairs to the wood planks and curbs.

Traffic is being detoured over the Merrill Corner Road to Hampshire Road. This detour is approximately 2.5 miles long.

Construction to Start on Route 3 in Trenton

Trenton ? Beginning April 1st, crews will be back to begin preparing areas along Route 3 in Trenton for construction that will last through mid-June.

Work includes adding turning lanes, installing guardrails and sidewalks as well as finishing the paving effort from last season. This work will be conducted Monday through Saturday with two lanes of traffic open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Alternating one-way traffic will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

While paving isn?t expected to start until mid-May, all other work will commence as weather allows.

Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is Closed

Kittery ? The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Kittery is closed to all traffic. At approximately 1:30 p.m. a tanker struck the bridge, forcing officials from New Hampshire DOT to close the bridge to traffic.

Officials will inspect, repair any damage and then test the bridge prior to opening back up to motorists.

It is anticipated the bridge will NOT be open for today's afternoon/evening commute.

Crews from MaineDOT will assist NHDOT with all necessary procedures.
