Construction crews plan to close the I-295 Southbound on-ramp from the Fore River Parkway on Monday and Tuesday nights (6/20, 6/21) between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This temporary on-ramp closure will allow paving operations to be completed on the bridge over the railroad tracks leading to the Amtrak terminal at the Portland Transportation Center.

Motorists can still access I-295 Southbound by continuing along the Fore River Parkway, turning right onto Veterans Memorial Bridge, and then taking the on-ramp to I-295 Southbound in South Portland.

Motorists who utilize Route 4 in Turner should be aware of construction starting on Monday, June 27, on the bridge that carries Route 4 over the Nezinscot River in Turner.

Crews will be replacing the surface of the bridge, and in order to remove the top layer of asphalt, crews will narrow the traveling lanes to 11 feet in each direction, and remove the surface in segments. Once the surface is removed, crews will then repave the bridge. This wearing surface replacement project is a bridge maintenance project designed to protect the bridge deck and extend the life of the bridge.

Preliminary construction has begun on the Princeton Bridge that carries Route 1 over the Grand Falls flowage between Princeton and Indian Township in Washington County.

Crews will be installing a single-lane temporary bridge that will serve as a detour while the old bridge is removed. When crews start to remove the old bridge, traffic will be switched over to the temporary bridge. One-way, alternating traffic over the temporary bridge will be regulated by temporary signal lights.

Ramp B (Route 196 eastbound to Route 1 northbound) of the Merrymeeting Bay Bridge in Brunswick will be closed to all traffic starting Thursday, June 23rd at 7 PM, and continuing through the night until Friday, June 24th at 6 a.m.

Crews plan to complete their work during the Thursday night closure, but if it is not completed Thursday night, Ramp C will close again Friday night.

Traffic will be detoured onto the Frank J. Wood Bridge (Route 24) and then onto Route 1 during the closure.

MaineDOT is partnering with Wiscasset to provide two uniformed officers to improve traffic flow in the village this July and August. US Route 1, which is Main Street in Wiscasset, serves as "a vital transportation route for tourists, as well as for commercial traffic in the Midcoast region" according to Gerry Audibert, Special Projects Engineer for the Maine Department of Transportation. "Yet it is a vibrant and charming village with restaurants, shopping and other services. We will be monitoring to see if uniformed officers can minimize traffic delays."

Crews are set to begin construction on Tuesday, July 5 on the Riverside Street and Warren Avenue intersection in Portland.

Crews will be improving the busy intersection with roadway widening, additional lanes, new sidewalks, improved signal lights and new guardrail. Over 22,000 vehicles a day utilize the intersection.

Motorists who utilize I-95 Southbound in Augusta need to be aware of upcoming nighttime ramp closures that will begin Wednesday July 6, and continue until Monday, July 11.

Construction crews must close the ramps in order to remove deteriorating pavement and then repave the ramps. While crews can remove pavement if it rains, the weather must be dry in order to pave, so the schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Starting Monday, July 11, MaineDOT bridge maintenance crews will begin repairs on the C.P. Railroad Bridge which carries Routes 6 and 15 over the rail line in the town of Greenville.

Crews will be repairing the bridge joints and seals as well as the deteriorating concrete. Traffic will be limited to one-way, alternating traffic controlled by temporary signal lights.

If construction proceeds as planned, repairs should be completed within five weeks.

Starting Friday, July 15, crews are set to begin construction on a 3.8-mile section of Route 1 in Whiting.

Crews will be removing a portion of the existing pavement, then repaving this portion of Route 1 that stretches from the intersection of Route 1 and the Gardner Lake Road north 3.8 miles to the Halls Mills Road. Construction plans also call improving drainage and replacing a large culvert along this stretch of Route 1.

Motorists who utilize Route 26/100 in Falmouth should be aware of possible delays on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week (July 12-15) as construction crews must close the Falmouth Railroad Bridge in order to offload steel beams that will be utilized in the construction of the new bridge.
