Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‑19)

Maine CDC is responding to the COVID‑19 pandemic, caused by a novel (new) coronavirus.
We urge Maine people to practice good hand hygiene, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home as much as possible.

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, Maine CDC will not hold a media briefing on Friday, November 27th. Media briefings will return to their normal schedule on Monday, November 30th.

COVID‑19 Basics

  • Take Every Precaution

Take simple steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19, such as:

    • Wear cloth face coverings when in public, when around people who don’t live in your household, and when you can’t stay 6 feet away from others, including when you
      are outside.
    • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
    • Stay home as much
      as possible
  • Know the Symptoms

    Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or
      difficulty breathing
    • Fever
    • Chills
    • Repeated shaking with chills
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • Sore throat
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  • Seek Medical Care if Needed

If you are concerned you have been exposed to COVID-19, call your healthcare provider, who will determine whether you should be tested. Decisions to test are left to the clinical judgment of your
    healthcare provider.

If you do not have a primary care provider, you can visit an urgent care or walk-in facility for care and testing. Always call before you arrive to let them know you are coming.
