The Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan provided $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to the Maine Department of Transportation to support local, regional, and state workforce transportation pilot projects, especially in rural areas. Administered by MaineDOT’s Bureau of Planning, the department’s Workforce Transportation Pilot program competitive grant program awarded funds to 12 subrecipients for 13 total projects, including Aroostook Regional Transportation System, Bath Iron Works, Gagne Foods, IRC, Kennebunk Kennebunkport Arundel Chamber of Commerce, Maine West, Robbins Lumber, Saddleback, Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Western Maine Transportation Services, and York County Community Action Corporation. Funds were used for both capital and operating costs, with award amounts ranging from $41,600 to $750,000.
