The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is committed to keeping the public informed about its work. Since 2019, we overhauled the DHHS website, added a blog to our home page, developed dashboards such as those used for COVID-19 activity, and regularly engage in press conferences, briefings, and other events. We respond directly to constituents as well as to Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) requests. 

CoverME.gov Open Enrollment Update: November 1, 2021-January 8, 2022

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of the Health Insurance Marketplace (OHIM) today released an update on plan selections through CoverME.gov, Maine’s new Health Insurance Marketplace.

OHIM will continue to post updates every two weeks throughout open enrollment, which began on November 1, 2021 and ends on January 15, 2022.

Maine DHHS Announces MaineCare Rate Increases to Accelerate Cost of Living Adjustments and Raise Direct Support Worker Wages in January

Today, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced its proposal to raise MaineCare rates in January for many home- and community-based services (HCBS), accelerating higher rates initially planned for July 1, 2022 and supporting providers in increasing pay for direct care workers to at least 125 percent of the state’s minimum wage.

DHHS Marks the Great American Smokeout® with New Initiatives to Help Mainers Quit

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of MaineCare Services is observing the 2021 American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout® by highlighting two new initiatives that are making tobacco cessation programs more accessible than ever for Mainers who want to quit using cigarettes, or other tobacco and vaping products. Tobacco use is still the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States.

DHHS Has Historic Opportunity to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities With $32 Million in Federal Funding

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) are launching a series of new initiatives to advance health equity in communities at higher risk of COVID-19, supported by an unprecedented grant of over $32 million from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC).

The funds are part of U.S. CDC’s $2.25 billion national initiative to expand state and community capacity and services funded through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021.
