Secretary Bellows to visit polling places on Election Day

AUGUSTA — Secretary of State Shenna Bellows will visit polling places, municipal clerks, poll workers and voters around Maine on Tuesday, November 8, the last day of voting in the General Election.

Elections officials at every level from the state to local election clerks work tirelessly to ensure Maine elections are accessible, safe and secure. Mainers should be proud of our high voter participation rates, the accuracy our of voting counts (which are routinely verified through recounts of close races), and that every U.S. citizen who is a Maine resident at least 18 years of age has the right to vote in our state.

As of Friday afternoon, 205,251 Mainers have already returned their absentee ballots to their municipality, of 249,865 requests for absentee ballots that have been made. Thursday, November 3 was the last day of no-excuse absentee voting. After November 3, when certain special circumstances exist, for example, an unexpected hospitalization, a voter may still vote absentee. Absentee ballots must be received by a municipality – whether dropped off in person, put in an absentee drop box if the municipality has one, or by mail – by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8 to be counted.

Secretary Bellows will be available at the following times and places for press availabilities and live shots. She will also be available for phone or virtual interviews starting at 6:30 a.m. and throughout the day and evening. Alternatively, in-studio interviews may be arranged upon request.
